“I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make her boast in the Lord: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad.” (Psalm 34:1-2 KJV)
In several states, including my home state, we set our clocks back one hour before we went to bed last night. The main thing on my mind this morning, well maybe not the main thing, but one sure concern, is whether people will get to church at the right time. Okay it is always a right time to be in the assembly of the saints, but I am referring to the start time. Will somebody show up early, wait for a little while, and then decide to go back to bed. Time changes can mess you up and, in more ways than what I just mentioned.
Depression, disorders of the emotional kind, deprivation of sleep, disruptions in our normal cycles of light and darkness, and that distracting feeling of being groggy until the body gets adjusted. Our physical bodies take a momentary fall during this season of time change.
My message to you, just to connect to this annual fall change, is that you must guard against letting all the physical nuances interfere with your spiritual nature. Don’t let all the side effects of the time change cause you to set aside your Christ-like behavior. Be alert! Make your adjustments as needed! Keep the fall time change from causing you to fall back spiritually; experience a failing in other words.
And listen, since many of you live in places where you did not have to set you clocks back, know that time is really filled with quick transitions, but as the songwriter says, “Hold to God’s unchanging hand.” You too have to be reminded as the season change from summer to fall; change from a calendar perspective and a chronological perspective, don’t fall back from a spiritual perspective! Don’t let the pending weather changes cause you to put your godly pursuits on hold! Don’t let the temperature inconsistencies, including temperature drops cause you to lose that fire that is inside you, shut up in your bones! Don’t fall back! Enjoy worship today! Be blessed!
“See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.” (Ephesians 5:15-16 NKJV)
Still committed to the climb,
Mark L. King
