COULD HAVE, SHOULD HAVE, WOULD HAVE

“I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.” (John 9:4 KJV)

Do you want to know how to strikeout those expressions that keep you from doing something, saying something, or displaying something that would have benefitted others in a righteous way?  I thought you might.  The way to accomplish the strikeout of “could have,” “should have,” and “would have,” all terms used in a retrospective way when thinking of our own behaviors, know that the way is simple.  Just replace those expressions with a better expression, one that prompts action.  And make sure your better expression includes one essential word found in Jesus’ mindset as revealed in both our opening and closing verses.  That word being, “must.”

Today, don’t pass by the obvious opportunities that the Lord puts before you.  Avoid the regretful and sometimes remorseful review that comes once the opportunity has passed you by.  You can do that be just saying, “I must…”  “I must let my light shine.”  “I must act like the salt of the earth.”  “I must treat someone like I want to be treated.”  “I must obey God before man.”  “I must do something to help one’s situation, seeing the opportunity is right in front of me.”  “I must show love for my brothers and sisters.”  “I must shed my ineffectiveness and inhibitions when it comes to witnessing for Jesus.”  “I must not let my tendency to criticize keep me from complementing, and this uplifting somebody else.”  “I must pray about everything, and stop worrying about almost anything.  Oh I could go on this morning, but you get the message.  The “must” word is now embedded in your mind for today, so much so it will energize you and enable you to evade in an excellent way, all those “could have,” “should have,” and “would have” expressions.  Start your expressions with results producing words that include the word “must.”  Do some “doing Jesus” Christianity today, okay?  Have a great start to your week!  God be with you!  Be strengthened in your work!  Be blessed!

“And He must needs go through Samaria.” (John 4:4 KJV)

Still committed to the climb,

Mark L. King
