“He who pursues righteousness and loyalty finds life, righteousness and honor.” (Proverbs 21:21)
A faithful deacon at our church has grown leaps and bounds since he came to Christ. His interest in the word of God is incredible. He has read completely through the Bible, more than once. He has done a theme based or topical study. He loves verse by verse studies. He never misses a study session, be it Sunday School or Bible Study. If you are ever blessed to speak a word to our congregation, your style is not what is important to him. Your rhythmic cadence does not have to be like a rehearsed symphony. You can use vocabulary to impress in any language, but your vocabulary is not what he will be listening for. What he is going to listen for is whether you are basing your speaking on what you have been reading in the word of God. God bless his soul!
The excerpt from the word above was sent to me and faithful members of the church who faithfully attends prayer meeting. He was doing his ordained duty of helping his pastor when he sent me this message along with the verse. I felt like, “This is perfect for me,” and essential to share with all readers, including you, as we go into the New Year, not making resolutions to soon be forgotten, but rather, making up our minds to consistently, continually, commit to certain pursuits as we make perfect progress on this Christian journey. Whether it is his original composition or not, is not important to me. The words agree with his heart, as they do with mine. Here are the words which come in the form of a prayer:
“God, please strengthen my commitment to pursuing You. You know my heart. You know where I’m strong, and where I struggle. Please shape and strengthen every area of my life, and help me endure whatever comes my way. In all seasons, show me love and righteousness so that way I can honor you with my whole life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
Go from one year into the next more committed to the pursuits of righteousness and loyalty. Know that I love you and of course, the Lord loves you. Let Him find pleasure in your whole life, not part of your life, but your whole life. The choice is yours. Be blessed!’
“…be beloved, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord.” (I Corinthians 15:58 NASB)
Still committed to the climb,
Mark L. King
