THE RUBIK’S CUBE OF LIFE

“Father, if Thou art willing, remove this cup from Me; yet not My will but Thine will be done.” (Luke 22:42 NASB)

Do you remember the Rubik’s Cube?  Yes, that toy; that three-dimensional combination puzzle, seemingly found in every house and even some offices.  It had six faces or sides made up of small square cubes, colored white, red, blue, orange, green, and yellow.  To solve the puzzle, each of the six faces or sides has to be made up of one color.  This toy caused many adults to fret, feel frustration, and they found the inability to solve the puzzle quickly produced a sense of failure.

I would get close, but I never solved the puzzle.  It was always, “I almost got it!”  I would keep plugging a way at it, but until this day I have not yet got everything to line up right.  Eventually I figured out that this puzzle was not where my passion was at, and I gave up pursuing the solving of the cube.

The spiritual journey of every Christian can be labeled as a Rubik’s Cube of Life.  Look at life in general first.  We work through our academic pursuits, changing majors at times until we find the one that matches our passion.  We work various jobs that we thought would bring us great satisfaction.  Yet regardless of the tier of one’s salary, the title on one’s door, or the total respect one gained from peers and superiors, individuals would change jobs, switch places of work, or even occupations because their pursuits were not lining up with their passion.  Now look at it specifically from a spiritual perspective.  At times we desperately look for what will be the perfect match between our passion and our pursuits.  I found mine in teaching and preaching the gospel.  Yet I have to tell you I have not reached the level of passion shown by Jesus who sacrificed His life for us on Calvary.  I have to keep plugging at it.  But oh, what a joy, in spite of what you face, in spite of how hard things get in life, or in spite of the troubles I may face, I press on.  In spite of empty church pews, I press on.  In spite of the fact that I have not solved the Rubik’s Cube of Life completely, from a spiritual perspective, I keep plugging at it!  Finally, after all the ventures, all the various jobs, I found my passion!  My passion lines up with my pursuits.  That keeps me going, looking ahead to the day where everything will be perfect, and every problem put aside!  How is you journey?  Is your pursuit in line with your passion?  Think about this as you go through the day.  Be blessed!

“Thy kingdom come.  Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” (Matthew 6:10 NASB)

Still committed to the climb,
