“Then Moses confronted Pharaoh: “God’s Message: ‘At midnight I will go through Egypt and every firstborn child in Egypt will die, from the firstborn of Pharaoh, who sits on his throne, to the firstborn of the slave girl working at her hand mill. Also, the firstborn of animals. Widespread wailing will erupt all over the country, lament such as has never been and never will be again. But against the Israelites—man, woman, or animal—there won’t be so much as a dog’s bark, so that you’ll know that God makes a clear distinction between Egypt and Israel.” (Exodus 11:4-7 The Message Bible)
I just got up and it’s about midnight. As I walked to the refrigerator to get some water, I wondered what I would see or hear what the walls would tell me about what was happening in the house of Moses’ family during the last plague; the one that convinced Pharaoh to let the Israelites go. I tried to picture what might have been going on, But, if walls could talk, what would they tell me? That’s when my theology, got mixed up with my tendency to bring times of ages past into our times. Imagination took over so quick.
I wondered if the walls would report about Moses’ family, gathering around and singing songs amidst the great cry in the land if Egypt, such as there has never been before and such as shall never be. I felt like the kid on Mr. Peabody! I went back in time to see what the walls would say, if walls could talk. Not knowing songs of that time, I went ahead an assigned songs to different songs I know to members of Moses family, as the walls talked.
In my imaginative visit, the walls told me the following. “I heard (Don’t you like that when preacher’s say, “I heard…?”); I heard Moses’ mother, Jochebed start things off with, “God’s Been So Good to Me…and I love Him.” She looked ahead and sang these words, “He has set me free!” After Moses said, “Won’t He do it?” Miriam, Moses’ older sister by seven years started singing, “Grace! Grace! God’s grace! His grace is sufficient for me!” Again Moses adds, no speech issues holding him back, “Let all God’s people say amen! Praise God!” (Note: I’m still making my imaginary visit, and listening to the walls in Moses’ house.) “I hear Aaron, Moses’ older brother of three years, stepping in to give a shot at a song. His song reflected back on the blood on the doorpost and the lentil, and as I heard it from the walls, I looked ahead to Christ’s victory on Calvary. “What song was that?”, you ask?” Well, hear the walls! “Aaron sings “I know it was the blood for me!” Moses is paying attention and encourages Aaron by saying in a loud voice, “Say it priest!” So Aaron complies and sings another song, “If It Had Not Been for the Lord on My Side.” If walls could talk. Mind you, while the characters are real, and the songs are real, and the lyrics could have been appropriate, I was using my imagination to get to a point. What point is that preacher?
The point is we are in a parallel type of predicament in this pandemic. Thank God that we are covered by the blood believer! Nevertheless, we are spending a lot more time in our houses. Sometimes by choice and sometimes, by mandate. Now if the walls in your house could talk, what would they tell me about what is going on in your house? Would they tell me that the presence of the Lord is being manifested like never before, in your house? Would they tell my that your household presses on, and is even growing spiritually during this time, in your house? Would the walls report on Bibles being open or Bibles remaining shut, in your house? Would the walls speak to your displayed confidence, a confidence shared by the three Hebrew boys, “He’s able”, in your house? Would the walls tell me they see closeness, or will they say they see a closed up and closed-door atmosphere asserted by the various members of your house? Would the walls report that while somebody was washing the dishes or prepping them for the dishwasher (same amount of energy except you don’t have to dry them or put them away right away) they broke out in this song, “God Gave Me a Song That the Angels Cannot Sing! I’ve been redeemed” in your house? Would the walls finish their report by saying your house was communicating by their faith in God, “I Will Trust in the Lord,” in your house? What would the walls tell me about your day this Thursday evening at the end of the day and how you projected Jesus, in your house? Have a great day my friend! I’m going to try to go back to bed! And you know what? I don’t have to worry about the walls watching me. The Lord will see everything I do. The same goes for you! Be blessed!
