THE PRAYER CUP

“Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16 KJV)

I’m not sure if it was my past experience working for a company which practiced the principle, “There is a place for everything and everything has a place,” or if it was the obsessive-compulsive disorder that I am accused of having.  Whichever is to blame, so let it be.  But around 3:00 a.m. Tuesday morning, I was walking through the living room, and I noticed that my wife had left her prayer list on the coffee table.  While I was impressed by her habit of morning and evening prayer time, I felt that the coffee table was not a place for the list.  Suddenly I remembered a cup in the kitchen, used as part of a design scheme and written on it was the verse above.  Also on the cup were the words, “Be bold,” of course in large print.  Since it agreed with the color scheme in the living room and because I needed a place for the prayer list, I took the cup, sat it on the coffee table, and assigned it a proper place on the coffee table.  This is not a temporary fix, but a permanent change and both my spouse and me can use it to place prayer requests on an ongoing basis.  We both can pray for all that we deposit in the cup.  As a side note, somebody can take this idea, design a packaged cup, pen, and some small pieces of paper or a small blank paper scroll, and make a fortune selling “The Prayer Cup.”  Go at it if you are so inclined.  Smile!

Every day that we see the prayer cup, we will be reminded that we must always pray.  As they say, ”Much prayer, much power.”  We cannot forget to pray!  Prayer does indeed change things.  This morning, I encourage you to pray, not just for yourself, and not just when you have a need, but pray for others and pray always!  If you don’t have a system to remember to pray for others or to nudge yourself to keep your word when you tell others, “I’ll be praying for you,” try the prayer cup idea.  Applying the principle mentioned above, the fact that “there is a place for everything,” know that we are the place for prayer, wherever we bow down and wherever we look to heaven from whence comes our help during the course of the day.  Also note that every prayer is in its proper place, coming from our hearts, our lips, and our silent thoughts, and it is sent boldly to the throne of God.  Have a wonderful Thursday!  Add me to your prayer list!  You are already on mine!  Be blessed!

“Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.” (I John 5:14 NKJV)

Still committed to the climb,
