“Then the multitudes who went before and those who followed cried out, saying: “Hosanna to the Son of David! ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’ Hosanna in the highest!” (Matthew 21:9 NKJV)
Do you remember when you were determined to enhance your vocabulary by learning a new word every day? How long did that last? Or do you recall how someone used a word and even though you did not know the meaning, you nodded your head pretending like you understood it in the speaker’s presence, but as soon as possible you looked the word up in the dictionary? Well today, knowing you are on your way to the assembly of the saints, either virtually or physically, I will give you a word for today. That word is “Hosanna.” While our usage of this term in liturgical settings, in our worship services, is our way of joyfully praising God for deliverance, our word for today, “Hosanna” also means “Save now!”
This word is appropriate today because as I prayed for you this morning, I asked the Lord to “Save now!” If by chance you are reading this and you have not accepted Christ as your Savior and you are still facing the wages of sin, which is death, I prayed that you will be saved from the penalty of sin. “Hosanna!” “Save now!” If you are reading this and you are struggling with temptation that has come to you wrapped up in an attractive, alluring package, I prayed that you will be saved from the power of sin; saved from yielding to temptation. “Hosanna!” “Save now!” If you are reading this and you have not heeded the wisdom found in the familiar closing verse below, my prayer for you was be saved from the presence of sin! I cried out this morning, “Hosanna!” “Save now!” I boldly approached the throne of God, petitioning Him in your unique case, “Hosanna!” “Save now!” Have a great worship experience today! Be thankful for your saving from the penalty, the power, and the presence of sin! Be blessed!
“How well God must like you—you don’t walk in the ruts of those blind-as-bats, you don’t stand with the good-for-nothings, you don’t take your seat among the know-it-alls.” (Psalm 1:1 The Message Bible)
Still committed to the climb,
