“When they had approached Jerusalem and had come to Bethphage, at the Mount of Olives, Jesus then sent two disciples, saying to them, “Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied there and a colt with it. Untie them and bring them to Me. And if anyone says anything to you, you shall say, ‘The Lord needs them,’ and he will send them on immediately” (Matthew 21:1-3 NASB)
ill-behaved things we did on an imprisoned, rainy day when we could not go outside, was to call people who we knew did not have a job and when they answered the phone, we would tell them, “Your dog is in my yard.” The person who answered our call would respond, “I don’t have no dog.” We would respond, “Well, I don’t have no yard!” We immediately hung up and instantly enjoyed laugh after laugh as we repeated our calls to people we knew and eventually, just people whose name was in the phone book. Incidentally, there was no *69 feature back in those days.
Funny story, but let me get into a faith story entitled, “The Lord Needs Your Donkey.” And before you say, “I don’t have no donkey,” let me correct you. You do have a donkey and just as the donkey in the opening verse was used for Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem, the Lord wants to use your donkey to ensure that you make a triumph entry into your day and in the future.
Let me define what is mean by “your donkey.” Your donkey is your willingness to be used by the Lord. Your donkey is your willingness to untie your body, untie your tongue, untie your actions, untie your fear to talk about the Lord.
Your donkey is your availability for kingdom work and an attitude that you will let the Lord use what He has blessed you with – for His purpose.
Yes, you have a donkey, and the Lord needs your donkey! Your donkey is your testimony, your prayer habit, your greater and growing fast faith, your knowledge of the word of God, your explanation of why you do not give into peer pressure or why you don’t do the things you used to do since Jesus came into your life, your time, your talents, your treasures, your valuable possessions, your carrying out your family role as a parent, child or sibling, your projection of the Christ in you in your career and in your coveted private business, your manners in your mode of transportation, your realization that you were once like those who now depend on you for help. Your donkey is your produces empathy, your hopeful look as you sit in the waiting room filled with worried patients at your physician’s office, your willingness to put the gospel over gossiping, and your faithfulness.
If I did not name “your donkey,” you know what your donkey is, don’t you? Reflect on that and remember, the Lord needs your donkey! Be blessed!
“In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you. If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well. If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly. Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good. Love each other with genuine affection and take delight in honoring each other. Never be lazy but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically. Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble and keep on praying.” (Romans 12:6-12 NLT)
Still committed to the climb,
