SPRING ALERT!

“In the spring of the year, when kings normally go out to war, David sent Joab and the Israelite army to fight the Ammonites.  They destroyed the Ammonite army and laid siege to the city of Rabbah. However, David stayed behind in Jerusalem.” (2 Samuel 11:1 NLT)

Springtime!  Meteorological springtime, according to the television weather broadcasters has already arrived.  The days are longer.  The temperatures are higher.  There is a tendency for us to change our routines.  Our winter wardrobe all of a sudden, feels too heavy, too wooly, and too itchy.  Many opt for fewer layers of clothes to the point that one would think that the standards of morality have changed.  I better add in regard to the latter that this is true for males, as well as females.  While the spring season is a time for spring cleaning, a reminder, and a revival of our hope as children of God, we also feel energized both physically and psychologically, and we tend to socialize more.

As Christians, we have to be on alert in the spring time, for this represents a perfect time for Satan to attack us by influencing us, in a subtle yet real way, to end up in places we should not be with and even with persons we have no business being around.  Satan has help, this year.  He is being aided this year by the easing of the pandemic mandates and thus our enemy is already attempting to cause us to change our godly ways and such efforts will be increased.

Therefore, my Saturday morning “spring alert” for you is to be sure you continue doing what the Lord expects you to do.  Don’t let the change in weather warm up your lustful desires that you defeated during the winter!  Don’t let the spring showers bring up more those figurative spring flowers!  Don’t let the storms of spring time temptations cause you to step backwards as opposed to stepping forward on your spiritual journey.  Don’t be like David, as described in the text above, and put yourself in a position where you are more likely to be embattled by a number of progressive sins that bring about negative consequences that affect you and yours for generations to come.

Springtime is a time to be alert!  Springtime is a time to awaken your God-consciousness even more!  Springtime is a time to meet the Lord’s expectations for you.  Look!  He has told you what He expects!  Stay alert!  Stay spiritual active!  Stay on the battlefield for the Lord!  Stay, still committed to the climb!  One more thing!  Do me a favor and forward this to others who need this “Spring Alert. “ Oh, oh!  I almost forgot!  Do me one more favor and make sure to show up at the assembly of the saints tomorrow to see what the Lord has to say specifically to you!  Be blessed!

He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.  And what does the Lord require of you?  To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” (Micah 6:8 NIV)

Still committed to the climb,

Mark L. King
