“WHAT’S ON YOUR MIND?”

“Be careful how you think; your life is shaped by your thoughts.” (Proverbs 4:23 Good News Translation)

In an article published in “Success Consciousness,” Remez Sasson poses the question, “How many thoughts does your mind think in one hour?”  He goes on to answer his own question by citing, “Experts estimate that the mind thinks between 60,000 – 80,000 thoughts a day.  That’s an average of 2500 – 3,300 thoughts per hour. “ He adds an equally incredible, alternative answer, “Other experts estimate a smaller number, of 50,000 thoughts per day, which means about 2100 thoughts per hour. This too, is a great number of thoughts.”

How many hours have you been up already this morning?  Well multiply those hours by 2,300, the average between the low end of Mr. Sasson’s two estimated ranges above.  Now, with that number in mind and not focusing on success consciousness per se, but rather God-consciousness, that which will, by the way, lead to success, examine what has been on your mind already today.  Now answer my question, “What’s on your mind?”

What was the result of your self-assessment?  Did you wake up thinking about the cost of food and whether or not you had enough to feed your household this week with the rising prices we pay for food?  Was one of your first thoughts about how you would clothe yourself this morning?  Did you get up, stagger down the hallway or into your en suite, half-awake, and after looking at yourself in a mirror, start thinking about how you could get in shape and add years to your life?  What was on your mind?  Whatever you were thinking, counter that with God-consciousness.  For instance, the answer to the thoughts flowing from the mind in the examples I just gave in this paragraph can be countered by seeing what God’s word has to say.  Look at Jesus’ words below to defend my statement.  Meditate!  Make room in your mind so that God thoughts will flow from your mind and shape your day.  Have a wonderful Tuesday!  Be blessed!

Look at the birds of the sky, that they do not sow, nor reap, nor gather crops into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.  Are you not much more important than they?  And which of you by worrying can add a single day to his life’s span?  And why are you worried about clothing?  Notice how the lilies of the field grow; they do not labor, nor do they spin thread for cloth, yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these.  But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you?  You of little faith!  Do not worry then, saying, ‘What are we to eat?’ or ‘What are we to drink?’ or ‘What are we to wear for clothing?’  For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.  But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be provided to you.  So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will worry about itself.  Each day has enough trouble of its own.” (Matthew 6:26-34 NASB)
