PICTURE YOU! WHO ART YOU?

“Your conduct among the heathen should be so good that when they accuse you of being evildoers, they will have to recognize your good deeds and so praise God on the Day of his coming.” (I Peter 2:12 Good News Translation)

Harriet Maher, in an article published online in an edition of Imaginated.com defined abstract art as follows. “Abstract art is the kind of art that emphasizes the use of non-representational forms to create meaning and reality — meaning that it doesn’t necessarily represent objects in the physical environment, like the sun, trees, or people.”  We have all seen pieces of abstract art and in some cases, we found meaning and in other cases we found mystery.  In regard to the latter, the meaning of the picture was not clear.  We were somewhat confused.  Still, in some cases, we just concurred with the meaning that someone else concocted and confidently expressed.  Abstract art might leave one guessing or left generating interpretations that were in no way close to what the artist had in mind when creating the piece of art.

For a moment on this Saturday morning that we have been blessed to focus on “Picture You!”  Let me pose the question, “Who art you?”  Furthermore, digging deeper, let me ask another question, in terms of your declaration to be a follower of Christ.  Are you being viewed similar to how onlookers view a created work that falls in the category of abstract art, or would you a picture-perfect depiction of what a true believer looks like?  You don’t have to answer me, just do some self-reflection and set out to present yourself as a new creation, or better said, “a new creature.”  Enjoy your Saturday, but don’t wear yourself out to the point that you will miss worshipping the Lord on His day tomorrow!  Be blessed!

“Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” (2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV)

Still committed to the climb,

Mark L. King
