YOU BETTER GET BACK UP THERE, RIGHT NOW!

“This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin.  So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.” (Hebrews 4:15-16)

A young boy anxious to get outside and play with his friends on a beautiful, autumn, Saturday morning, descended the stairs that led directly to the front door.  He navigated the stairs skillfully, avoiding all the squeaky places on the steps.  He mastered those stairs like a trapeze performer quietly traversing, navigating across a high wire.  Tiptoeing, teetering to the left or the right, as necessary, the young boy makes it to the front door.  He was relieved, but he relaxed too soon.  He forgot that the front door had its own sound, a creaky sound that one could hear easily from other places in the house.  Nevertheless, he ignores the sound and takes one step toward the front porch, but before he could land both feet on the ground, his mother, with her hands on her hips says, “Did you do all you were supposed to do upstairs?” speaking of his required Saturday duties.

The young boy showed integrity, told the truth right away, “No, ma’am.”  In spite of being forthright, he tried to respectfully bargain with his mother, “Can I finish it later?  I’ll do it this afternoon.”  His mother, one hand still on her hip and the other now pointing at her son, says with that voice that indicates one is not playing, “You better get back up there, right now!”  The young boy, being obedient, goes upstairs and finishes his duties.  Consequently, the rest of his day went better.

Let’s start the weekend off right.  If you have not prayed already today, I mean really prayed dutifully as you should; if you have not gone “upstairs” and approached the throne of grace, let me speak these words to you, “You better get back up there, right now!”  If you do, as a consequence, the rest of your day and your entire weekend will go much better.  May you have a fabulous Friday!  Be blessed!

“I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.  My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.” (Psalm 121:1-2 KJV)

Still committed to the climb,

Mark L. King
