IT’S LIKE MAKING UP THE BED

“Teach us to use wisely all the time we have.” (Psalm 90:12 Contemporary English Version)

It is an everyday thing when it comes to making up our bed.  Daily, we make the decision to either make it up or leave it unmade.  Trained as children to make up our beds, back when we responded to the authority in our homes who told us to do so, saying, “Nobody is going to see it!”  The rebuttal to our response, or better yet the refutation to our rationale from our parents was, “You don’t know if that is the case!  Get in your room and do it anyway!  It is something you should do every day.”  Personally, I still obey those words until this day.  My adult independence did not set me free from being submissive to what I was taught as a child.

Life it like making up your bed.  You decide whether to live life to your full potential as a child of God or to live life in an unmade way, as if Christ has not made you brand new, or better than you once were.  Every morning you are blessed to see, you decide if you will make the most the new day you have been blessed to be in the land of the living.  To tell the truth, you will do that today.

Borrowing from the parental refutation to our childhood response and rationale, I admonish you to make the most of life today, not believing that nobody will notice you.  It is not a “maybe” someone will not see it in regard to your life.  It is a “definitely,” and people will be looking, observing, noticing how you are living your life.  This will see if your life walking matches you lots of talking about the wonderful change the Lord has brought about in you.  Others will see if your life is really made up properly or not, based on how you present yourself to the world.

Even if it sounds redundant or repetitive, let me be clear to what I am saying.  As adults we make a decision how we will live our life’s daily.  As Christians, we have been trained by the authority in our life, the Lord, to live in such a way that people will see light and glorify God.  “Don’t hide your light!  Let it shine for all; let your good deeds glow for all to see, so that they will praise your heavenly Father. (Matthew 5:16 The Living Bible).

We have been trained to live our life each day in a way that we are constantly living in a state of prayer and praise and endowed with His sustaining power to help us sustain a straight and righteous walk.  Every step we take throughout the day in which we are living, we can praise God for blessing us to be in the land and for trusting us to take advantage of the life Jesus came to give us.  Every step we take during the day, is part of a power walk!  Every step we take is a prayer walks, as we depend on the Lord to order our steps in life.

Being adults, yes you are grown, I will give you that, and we have no earthly parent or authority in our house telling us what to do, but you know as well as I do that there Christian training, and the Spirit of God who dwells within you will remind you not once, but constantly through each day, to live the life you were called to live as members of a holy nation and a royal priesthood.

Please keep the making up the bed analogy in mind this Tuesday, and consciously strive to live life like you should, just like you met the expectation to make up your bed and make it up right!  Have a great day!  Oh, I know you didn’t forget to give me a smile yet, did you?  Here is mine to you, “Smile!”  Be blessed!

“The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy.  I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance [to the full, till it overflows].” (John 10:10 The Amplified Bible)

Still committed to the climb,

Mark L. King
