“And working together with Him, we also urge you not to receive the grace of God in vain—for He says, “At a favorable time I listened to you, and on a day of salvation I helped you.” Behold, now is “a favorable time,” behold, now is “a day of salvation.” (2 Corinthians 6:1-2)
Traveling to Los Angeles from Indianapolis, my wife and I had a stop at Dallas to catch another plane. We did not notice the time change in Texas and felt that we had plenty of time to eat a little brunch at a sit-down restaurant. After we were seated, I saw the gate where our connecting flight would depart. I excused myself to go check on what time the flight would be boarding, still assuming we had plenty of time to eat. The airline employee in charge of overseeing the seating of travelers on the flight told me, “We will be loading in five minutes.”
Now I did not panic, but I walked very, very fast back to the restaurant and let my spouse know that the plane was about to load. Thank God we were in the right terminal! We immediately set our menus on the table and informed the server that we had to go board a plane. The lesson we learned: “You better know what time it is!” When you fly again, and it is not a direct flight to your destination, make sure you check the time zone, so you won’t miss your flight, mess up your plans, and become mentally frustrated.
There is another lesson my friends. If you know someone who is unsaved, tell them, “You better know what time it is!” Follow up that statement by letting that person know that now is the favorable time to come to Jesus! No one should be in the wrong place, as we were in the restaurant, and end up in a mess, miss the flight to God’s celestial shore, and be mentally frustrated and mistake me not, tormented for not knowing what time it is!
There is still another lesson! This time it is for the saved. If you have been trying to solve your problems by yourself, as a believer, you need to realize that it is time to turn things over to the Lord. You better know what time it is!
One more lesson! This one is probably not for you, but for “somebody you know.” If you have yet to have disassociated yourselves from walking in the counsel of the wicked, or standing in the path of sinners, or sitting in the seat of scoffers, all three of those conditions described at the beginning of Psalm 1, then you better know what time it is!
Wait there is one more lesson! Whatever your dilemma, whatever decision you must make regarding the path your take in life, and whatever diversion or distraction you will face today, know what time is it? What time is it? It’s time to call on the Lord!
I’m sure that you will add more “lessons” of a personal nature, as you meditate on what I have written to you this morning, and that’s a good thing! Stay God-conscious, knowing what time it is! Be blessed!
“Seek the Lord while you can find him. Call upon him now while he is near.” (Isaiah 55:6 The Living Bible)
Still committed to the climb,
