NOW THAT YOU HAVE BEEN FILLED

“But He said, ‘More than that, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it!’” (Luke 11:28 NKJV)

Every week you and I go to the assembly of the saints. We did that a couple of days ago, right?  When we go, we are fed, filled by the sent message that comes in the form of the sermon, and sometimes the Sunday School lesson, and perhaps during a teaching emphasis presented by a layperson between choir selections. I know we are especially, exceptionally filled when God’s anointed preacher is moved by the Spirit to preach the word as he was charged to do at his ordination years ago. Our spiritual tanks reach a level where we can say that we were more than filled. Shall we say, filled above the figurative, yet spiritual, tank-filled line.  Two-days ago, on Sunday, was no exception. We went home filled with God’s word; filled up with God’s wisdom; filled up with God’s ways as revealed in the wonderful teaching and preaching we listened to attentively. We were filled up in such a way in a brief time, a small portion of the day, Sunday, when we came to worship the Lord. Without a doubt, we were edified, essentially inspired to become even more committed to living according to God’s will, instead of our own.

That’s true, unless you did not go or you went and only opted to be partially filled in the assembly of the saints.  But most saints like yourself, left filled. You came home filled. You were still filled when you went to bed last night.  Well, now as you have woken up on a Tuesday morning, blessed to see a new day, how will you manifest the benefit of hearing the word God sent to you today?  Think about it.  To be sure you get the point, let me ask you another way, “What are you going to do as a child of God since you were filled?”  I hope you will be ready to go the distance as a witness, ready for wrestle with unsuspected situations or unwanted diversions that try to disprove that you benefitted from coming from what the older generation used to call “The Filling Station,” referring to church.  Answer the question, as you drive throughout this day and the rest of the week successfully, “Now that you have been filled, how will you be better as a witness, a representative, and ambassador for the Lord? Think on these words. Be blessed!

“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.” (James 1:22 NKJV)

Still committed to the climb,

Mark L. King

  1. This meditation hits home: what will I do now that I have been filled with the word of God. What action will I take to help the message flow beyond me? I can share what I heard with others; I do that. I can send it to others that probably didn’t go to church; I don’t always do that. I definitely can act better so others can see the word in me; I try to do that. This was a good way to reflect on these things.
