“Since then we have a great High Priest who has passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to our confession. For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who was in every sense tempted like we are, yet without sin. Let us then come with confidence to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:14-16 Modern English Version)
In the room that I am writing in this morning, my usual workspace, there are many black objects, in terms of color. If you focus on them, they can be a source of inspiration when looked at through a spiritual lens as opposed to merely the naked eye. There is the black lamp, which could have led me to write about how the Lord has shined on us again this morning, allowing us to see a new day, or how we should let our light shine. There is a decorative piece on my desk, three black elephants holding up a clear globe. This could have moved me to write about the true and living God who senses all things, sees all things, and with His strength, He holds up the whole world in His hands. There are the multiple black bibles that remind me, “We are filled with God’s word, so you will never be without anything to write about.” Let me name just a few more black objects in this room. There is the black wall hanging that says, “Don’t tell God that you have a big problem, tell your problem that you have a big God.” That’s a powerful message in itself! There’s the black phone that might have inspired me to verify that Jesus is truly on the main line and that we should freely use it frequently. The old, antique black Underwood typewriter that serves as a coffee table centerpiece, perhaps it is just a reminder to keep writing; stay committed to the climb.
Yes, there are many black objects in this room , but the one that caught my attention this morning was a black cup that was given to me by a faithful leader at our church, and I keep it right on my desk. On the front of this black cup, in big white letters it reads, “Be Bold” On the inside of the cup, right near the top, the sentence started on the front of the cup is completed, “in your prayers.
So that’s the object that the Holy Spirit chose to use in encouraging you and me, on this Friday morning, “Be bold in your prayers.” Whatever it is, take it to the Lord in prayer. The backside of the cup has these embossed words on it that reaffirms that we should do just that this morning and every morning. It reads, “…come boldly to the throne of our gracious God.” Be moved by the black cup my friend. Find your own black cup in your cupboard, pull it out to be used as a reminder to respond to the message the Lord has put on our hearts this morning. Be blessed!
“One day Jesus told his disciples a story to show that they should always pray and never give up.” (Luke 18:1 NLT)
Still committed to the climb,
