FINALLY, I DID IT!

Since the time change this year, almost every other day I said that I was going to change the air filter on the furnace.  Time passed by; day after day, and week after week, and I really had no excuse for not changing the filter.  Well, Thursday, I finally stopped stalling, stopped putting off a simple task that would benefit the whole household and all who entered.  Calling it what it is, in other words, I stopped procrastinating and got it done Thursday morning.  Finally, I did it!

Recognizing the negative impact of procrastination, I decided to see what I could find in the Scriptures to help me avoid procrastinating, putting things off, in the future.  I decided to start with The Book of Proverbs.  The word will be your counselor, your consultant, your confident source for help in all areas of lives.

I’m going to share a handful of what I found in my search.  Perhaps these five verses will help you address your own procrastination as it relates to a chore, a correction of behavior, a change that will put an end an addiction of some sort, a commitment deficiency or perhaps you might fill compelled to recognize and remedy a complaining nature and instead look at your constant blessed nature.  Just maybe it will help you to stop postponing reconciling a relationship, rejecting the Spirit’s voice for you to return back to church, really, and sooner than later.  By the way, in regards to the latter, tomorrow, Sunday, falls in the category of “sooner” and it will be a good chance to start returning back to church regularly.  Don’t worry!  You will be welcomed!  If you have doubts about being welcomed, come to visit the church I pastor, Salt Of The Earth, in Indianapolis.  You’re invited!

Read these verses before you get started doing all you do on Saturday.  They may just change your agenda!

“Don’t put it off; do it now!  Don’t rest until you do.” (Proverbs 6:4 NLT)

“The diligent find freedom in their work; the lazy are oppressed by work.” (Proverbs 12:24 The Message Bible)

“The lazy man won’t go out and work. “There might be a lion outside!” he says.  He sticks to his bed like a door to its hinges! (Proverbs 26:13-14 The Living Bible)

Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring.” (Proverbs 27:1 The Amplified Bible)

Whatever type of procrastination you defeat and whatever victory you will have over excuses and bad habits that accompany procrastination today, you can say what I said after I changed my furnace filter that was so black, light would not shine through it: “Finally, I did it!”  Have a good day!  Be blessed!

Still committed to the climb,

Mark L. King
