“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, therefore I will hope in him.” (Lamentations 3:22-24 English Standard Version)
Don’t be like Sad Sam. Sad Sam woke up this morning, and he was annoyed. His emotions were teetering on the side of anger. First of all Sad Sam thought, “Man! Another day that I have to go to work.” Next, Sad Sam went to the closet to find some clothes to wear, and even though his walk-in closet was full of clothes, Sad Sam disgustedly decreed to himself, “All l I have to wear is the same old thing. I don’t have anything new.” Sad Sam drives safely to work in his payment free BMW, a 2020 model. He exits his luxury car that made it safely through the dangerous streets to His workplace. A co-worker asks Sad Sam, “What’s new?” Sad Sam replies in a dull voice as if he is living a defeated life, a life where he is being denied., “Nothing’s new! It’s same old, same old.”
Poor Sad Sam! He had overlooked that the Lord had woke Him up to see another day. Sad Sam was blind to the fact that He was blessed to even have a job…any job! Sad Sam’s wardrobe was overflowing, but He did not see his bountiful blessing of having clothes to put on his back, never having to wear the same outfit every day or even in successive weeks. Poor Sad Sam! His car was top notched! He made it to work without an accident or an incident where he had to dodge a stray bullet. No obstacles got in his way to delay his arrival at work. The train that travels across the main road Poor Sam drives to get to work showed up out of nowhere, earlier than usual. But there were less rail cars than usual, and he made it on time! Sad Sam overlooked all the many blessings that the Lord mercifully bestowed on Him! Sad Sam overlooked the faithfulness of the Lord to watch over his going out and coming back in! Sad Sam, a Christian like you and me, never once thought about the mercy of God. I’ll say it again, “Poor Sad Sam!”
I hope as you wake up this morning you see the blessing of a brand new day, a day that you have never seen before! I hope you see how the Lord let your days roll on in spite of you not really deserving it! We all have our failings, but again, thank God for His forgiveness and faithfulness. I pray that today you will see all the benefits of the Lord’s tender mercies. I pray even more fervently that you will be rejoicing this Wednesday morning, and that you will not be a Sad Sam! Enjoy the brand new today! For every day, if you have stay with the Lord or every time you come back to the Lord after you have strayed instead of stayed, you will experience a brand new sense of “better!” Enjoy it! Be blessed!
