“Today, if you will hear His voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.” (Hebrews 3:15b NKJV)
Whether you read this on this blessed Saturday morning or if you read it on another day in the future, the title is applicable and meaningful. You see, for you, my brother or my sister in Christ, it is always “today.” Tomorrow is Sunday, the Lord’s Day, and we will assemble with fellow saints, but Sunday is not the only time the term “today” has relevancy for you and me. Again, for you, me included, it is always “today.”
Other than the relevancy of the word in the verse, “today,” we see three things that there do on any day that we are blessed to see. First, hear His voice. Hear the Lord speak to you through His word! Hear the Lord speak to you as the Holy Spirit teaches you, reminds you, and guides you. Hear the Lord through the teaching and the life of the Son of God, Jesus the Christ. Hear His voice as you sit in the sanctuary or your group Bible study classes. Don’t let anything block your hearing the Lord. May I say this right here, borrowing from the Master? “He that has ears, let him/her hear.”
Second, do not harden your hearts to the point that you either don’t believe His words or you, by your own volition, assisted by the voices of the great deceiver, the great crowd of people in your environment, including the extended surroundings presented by the ever-expanding and not fully censored social media forums, or by the voice of your own flesh which constant tries to take over cause you to move to doubt and on to unbelief, Don’t discount, don’t dismiss, don’t discredit, and done defy or deny the voice of the Lord.
Third, look back and see the lesson of those whose hearts rebelled against the Lord. They were not able to enter into His rest. Hardened hearts can lead to drifting gradually away until one no longer holds on to their faith and possibly turns away from the Christ altogether. What a danger!
Last comment to back up the premise, “For you it is always today.” A couple of days ago, the weather forecaster pointed out that it was the longest day of the year, speaking of how long we would have sunlight. Excitedly, the forecaster pointed to the fact that we would have sunlight for 14.9 hours, almost 15 hours on June 21, 2023. He, of course, was speaking in terms of meteorological terms. Put aside the meteorology terminology for now my friend, and think of the spiritual. For you, today is always “today.” Hence every day, you are to let the Light of life shine forth from you.
Have a super Saturday! Strive to be holy! Show up at the house of worship tomorrow! Shout out praises to the Lord! Shine your light today! Be blessed!
“Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the world; the one who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.” (John 8:12 NASB)
