“This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and reliable and one which enters within the veil.” (Hebrews 6:19 NASB)
Believer, as the verse indicates your hope is as an anchor of the soul. That’s good news to start you off this Monday morning. No matter what church you attend, you will probably heard the same question posed to the people in the pew, so I will ask you in words that you are familiar with regarding the fact that our hope being an anchor of the soul is good news, “Am I right about it?”
Encouraging the readers of this letter to the Hebrews to stay with the Lord and not drift away, we find our opening verse assuring is that our soul is anchored in our faith in the Lord. The songwriter hast said, “My hope is anchored in the Lord.” The opening verse tells us that our hope is sure. Believers, we shall enter heaven, within the veil where we will meet our Great High Priest Jesus. Know for sure that our hope is steadfast and that we should never let anything change the hope we have.
Last week, my Wednesday night Victory Class (Bible Study) participants, analyzing the analogy, answering my question about what anchors of ships do, answered so quickly that I thought for sure they wanted to get to the next and last verse of Hebrews 6, verse 20, and call it a night. For without any reservation or hesitation, they quickly said that such anchors keep a ship from moving, hold the ship in a safe place even when in the middle of a storm or when the waves of the sea were turbulent, and they also pointed out that no current could move it away from its safe place. The class pointed out that the anchor did its job, even though it could not be seen. They said, “You just know it’s there. Oh, they were not done. Next, they spoke of the chain that connected to the ship and the anchor could not be overlooked.
I hope that is the case with your hope. I hope it is sure and steadfast. I hope you it keeps you looking ahead to our forerunner, Jesus Christ! Did you notice that I’m hoping about your hope. Smile! That’s okay, but seriously, I am praying that nothing will distract you and cause you to drift away from your hope! Keep your hope alive! As a member of the royal priesthood, you will enter into heaven one day for sure. All because of the anchor of your soul. All because of your unmovable faith and hope in Christ Jesus our Lord. Faith is your “chain” that connects your with our anchor, an unmovable hope. As you sail through life this week, remember the anchor your soul, no matter what may come your way. Stay under a presence of peace during any storm, unaffected by any situation, and any unexpected surging wave of turmoil or undeniably false teachings or influences that try to make you move from your personal place of safety, a place where your souls is anchored with a certain hope in Christ! Have a great Monday! Be blessed!
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.” (I Peter 1:3 NIV)
