IS THE HAND QUICKER THAN THE EYE?

“…the eyes of the Lord your God are continually on it from the beginning of the year to its end.” (Deuteronomy 11:12 NIV)

At some time in your days on this earth, you have heard a magician or old trickster say, “The hand is quicker than the eye.”  Is it?  Let’s see!

I have a “magic” trick, probably one that is done by novice illusionists, one that I do with young children, mostly toddlers.  I take a small coin and act as if I am rubbing it in my arm trying to make it disappear.  I let it fall to the ground the first two times, dramatically giving the impression that my magic is a miserable failure.  The young child is watching, his eyes on my every action.  Well, the child must have arrived at the conclusion that I was not going to be able to accomplish what was impossible, because  the third time I drop the coin the youngster is obviously not paying as close attention as he/she was from the start.  I pick up the coin with my right hand and quickly as I move it up to my forearm, I transfer it, unnoticeably, to my left hand.  I keep going through the motion of rubbing the coin in my forearm with my right hand while I drop the coin down the back collar of my neck as I tell the child to keep watching carefully for the coin to disappear.  Repeating words like, “Watch it now!  Watch carefully, helps me cloak my move and I distract him/her from seeing how I am really making the coin “disappear.”  When I remove my hand, the small coin is nowhere to be found.  My distraction and deceptive moves had worked.

Intent on seeing how it works, the child asks me to do it a couple more times.  Finally, the fourth time performing the “magic,” the child sees what I am doing.  But the first three times, I had him fooled.  The hand was quicker than the eye.

People get like that with God.  They make a mistake that their diversions are drawing keep people from detecting their unrighteousness.  The think their distractions of doing good overshadow the bad, keeping the latter from being seen.  They employ deceptions by talking a good “Christian” talk and walking a perfect Christian walk, that is while in front of the saints, but when away from the church, it is like a prescheduled time to take off the “Super Christian” uniform is on the person’s personal itinerary, and they blend in with the world.  Big mistake!  Let me tell you why You can’t fool God, not one time!  As the opening verse says, “The eyes of the LORD your God are continually on it from the beginning of the year until its end.”  “It” included what you do.  And, I might add, this statement about the Lord’s eyes is applicable to any year, this year included.  Yes, the year you are living in, my friend.

Diversions, distractions, and deceptions don’t work.  The Lord sees all and knows all.  The Lord knows your mannerisms, your motives, and your moves.  You pose no mystery to God.  You can’t fool God!  Is the hand quicker than the eye?  Not in the case of the eyes of God!

Keep the aforementioned in mind as the weekend begins and share this truth with others.  Have a great Friday!  Be blessed!

“The eyes of the Lord are in every place, watching the evil and the good.” (Proverbs 15:3 NASB)

Still committed to the climb,
