“Only take care, son of man, that you don’t rebel like these rebels. Open your mouth and eat what I give you.” (Ezekiel 2:8 The Message Bible)
Have you ever had one of those days where you could not stop going back to the kitchen over and over, and each time you searched until you found something to satisfy your unrelenting appetite? I had one of those days the other day, just could never get enough to eat. I wondered if it was because I skipped eating a healthy lunch, opting for all the snacks I could find. My experience with “one of those days” made me seek the answer to why we eat three meals a day.
Researching on the web, I found out that we eat three meals a day for four basic reasons: (1) To gain control over our appetite and distribute our energy supply through the day, (2) To maintain good blood sugar levels and enhance our overall quality of life, (3) To sustain healthy intervals between meals as recommended by nutritionists, and (4) to ensure a healthy eating habit by monitoring when, what, and how much we eat. Research produced a better answer than the response I would have provided. I would have just said, “Because we is hungry!” (Excuse my early morning grammar.)
The question in the title above, “Do these reasons apply?” can actually be expanded to say, “Do these reasons have apply to our spiritual eating habits? I don’t know what you would say, but I think they do. We need spiritual nutrition to gain control over our sanctified life and to sustain our holy energy. We need to get in God’s word to enhance our overall life. One feeding from the word daily applaudable but is actually not enough. And while we can have intervals between spiritual meals, the intervals should not be between one Sunday to the next, or even one morning to the next. Healthy people, from a spiritual perspective, will find themselves in the word more than once a day. Finally, only we alone, as adults who have free access to the supply of food in the house, no longer restricted by parental schedules; only we alone can choose when, what, and how much we eat. Don’t excuse my grammar this time, but I think we need to be eating from the word of God often, “Because we is hungry!”
Get in God’s word more than once today. Be energized to live holy and live right. Open your Bible, more than once today, and imagine that as God was speaking to Ezekiel in the opening verse, He is speaking specifically to you, male or female. Rejoice! Find delight in your heart! Have a great Wednesday. Be blessed!
“Your words were found, and I ate them, and your words became to me a joy and the delight of my heart…” (Jeremiah 15:16a English Standard Version)
