“Good people are remembered long after they are gone, but the wicked are soon forgotten.” (Proverbs 10:7 CEV)
Are you ready for this Monday Short meditation? It should take you less than 60 seconds to read, but your reaction to it should take the entire week, and the results should still be evident throughout your lifetime.
As I was doing dishes one day last week, I found myself, with my arthritic hands, sitting on a stool, bending over the sink, focusing on the chore and ignoring the view of the outside that could be seen through the kitchen window. Quickly I recognized that I was actually doing the same thing I saw my mother do when she was in her senior years, peacefully laboring over the sink. I remembered all the sacrifices she made, regardless of how she felt, and in spite of whatever else she had to attend to for her family or for the family of God, the local church. Not saying a word or even humming a song, her face revealed a state of serenity. However, I am sure her mind was at work, considering how she was going to serve others. My trip down memory lane generated a great feeling of appreciation. Memories, good or bad will impact you. I know that’s true, because here I was unconsciously, unintentionally, or even unavoidably as I am experiencing the effect of aging, doing the very same thing as my mother. But after a brief smile, and a silent laugh, I stopped looking at the similarities and moved to thinking about a summary, one that many others would agree. Momma was one of those individuals who fit the “good people” category. She is gone, but good people are remembered.
Let’s agree to something at this early morning moment. Being clearer, let’s agree that this is how we are going to start our week. We are going to go forward, striving to be remembered as one of the “good people” by many. We are going to meditate, major in serving others, making a difference in the lives of others, and maintaining our faithfulness, so much so that it is manifested before many onlookers who will pack our witness in their memories. Yes, we are going to make good memories for those who know us. I’m not writing to be writing, my friend. This is how we are going to start our week. Look at the results, revealed in the closing quote. Be blessed!
“Memories of our lives, of our works and our deeds will continue in others.” (Rosa Parks)
Still committed to the climb,
