THE WRITING ON THE WALL

“But you his son, Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart, although you knew all this.  And you have lifted yourself up against the Lord of heaven.  They have brought the vessels of His house before you, and you and your lords, your wives and your concubines, have drunk wine from them.  And you have praised the gods of silver and gold, bronze and iron, wood and stone, which do not see or hear or know; and the God who holds your breath in His hand and owns all your ways, you have not glorified. Then the fingers of the hand were sent from Him, and this writing was written.  And this is the inscription that was written: MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN.  This is the interpretation of each word. MENE: God has numbered your kingdom, and finished it; TEKEL: You have been weighed in the balances, and found wanting; PERES: Your kingdom has been divided, and given to the Medes and Persians.” (Daniel 3:22-28 NKJV)

The writing on the wall for Belshazzar, son of Nebuchadnezzar, rightfully, accurately, and appropriately so, did not contain good news for the king.  It was not positive, not uplifting, but it was the truth.  However, it was fitting due to his deeds, his conduct, and his lack of reverence for the Lord our God.  Not much more needs to be said about the writing on the wall, as it applies to the text above.

So, let me direct your attention to the writing I saw on the wall yesterday, actually a writing on a piece of wall art hanging in one of the rooms of my house.  As you meditate on them, seeing that you revere the Lord, respect Him, regulate your conduct based on His word, and rely on Him to direct your path in all your ways, let me simply list the words on the wall art, the writing on my wall.  Hopefully you will be uplifted.  Note that I am just listing them, as they appear around a brass image of the cross, representing the one on which the Lord died to atone for our sins.

Here are the words!  In your mind see them placed around the cross: Faith, Blessing. Cherish, Happiness, Rejoice, Grace, Hope. Trust, Love, Cheer, Family , Bless, Life, Truth, Peace, Believe, Friendship, and Delight.  Now pause, don’t get off track by trying to visualize the wall art, but think how these words reveal something to you about God the Father, and God the Son, Jesus the Christ.

Have a tremendously, uplifted, fantastic Friday, my friend!  Follow the Paul’s advice as you do what I have charged you to do regarding the writing on the wall.  Be blessed!

“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.” (Philippians 4:8 NKJV)

Still committed to the climb,

Mark L. King
