DÉJÀ VU

But the path of the just (righteous) is like the light of dawn, that shines brighter and brighter until [it reaches its full strength and glory in] the perfect day.]” (Proverbs 4:18 -11 The Amplified Bible)

After watching an old movie entitled “Déjà Vu,” I looked up the thought-provoking title to get the formal definition of the term. I found out that it was a word borrowed from the French term that means “already seen,” and it is “a feeling that you have lived through a present a situation before.”

Many people, including myself and perhaps you as well, we have had that feeling before, and if not déjà vu, we have found ourselves needing to react, respond, or reply in a situation like we have experienced in the past; an experience that felt like a replay. Well, it is not a replay, and we should note that any new situation is not literally the same. You may have to admonish a child with the same wisdom you have gained on more than one occasion. But regardless of the extended elapse of time, it is an entirely new experience. It is a new situation. You may have been asked for help by a new employee or a new convert to Christ, much like you have been sought out for help in the past. Yet, once again, you are not reliving the situation. Yes, the situations seems recreated, but the persons are not the same. It is a new situation. You might have prayed the same prayer that you did for the last several days, persistently reached upward to the throne of God, petitioning the Almighty for the same thing, but it is not the same exact setting. It is new situation. You know you need help. You pray using similar, if not the same, exact words, but note that it is not the same situation.  You have changed, and God has changed as He is moving closer to the point of producing more trust on your end, trust that you can depend on God. It is a new situation.  It is not déjà vu.

You woke up this morning, perhaps saying, “Here we go again, same old routine!”  But today is not yesterday and your experience of a new day, one you have been blessed to see, does not fall under the phenomena of déjà vu.” Regardless of your saying, it is still true: It is a new situation.

Rejoice and be glad in this new day! For this is a day that you have never seen before.  Praise the Lord, for this is a new place in time where the Lord, because of His great mercy, has let your days roll on and He has given you another chance to make perfect progress in terms of your Christian growth. You may face similar challenges, but today you can confront them better and more successfully.  You may be confronted with the same problem, but today your ever-increasing faith should help you face the problem with conviction, with the certainty that “come what may,” it will be all right, for nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus. You are more than a conqueror in Christ Jesus, and because of your commitment to the climb, because of your commitment to sustain your momentum on this Christian journey, you are a better conqueror than yesterday.  No déjà vu for you!

Come on now! Start your day with a new attitude!  Rise up with a new determination, ready to face similar, repeat-like situations that you face with new vigor as you walk in the newness of life, looking for one new victory after the next. Situations are different, but they are not the same.  And today, neither are you!  You are better than the day before, ready to be a witness for the Lord, more than any time before.  I like how you are aiming for perfection, and I admire how you are striving to achieve excellence! I love how you are pressing on toward the mark! Yes, you will face similar stuff my saved friend, but I am confident that you will step out on faith and please God, by showing the spiritual growth you attain progressively, day after day. You already know that without faith that it is impossible to please God. Guess what! He sees you! Keep making Him smile!  And remember He is smiling on you! Praise God again! Be blessed!

“This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 118:24 The Living Bible)

Committed to the climb,

Mark L. King
