TOO OLD! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

A little girl who loves the Lord, and loves her Pastor too, told her grandmother, in so many words, “Pastor King is too old to be cool.” This followed a discussion comparing Pastor M.R. King, my son, with me, Pastor M.L. King. She made a preliminary comment; an opening statement, much like a lawyer, and perhaps it would stand up in court. Perhaps!

Well, if my Counselor were to make an opening statement, He would probably quote the following scriptures after saying, “Too old! Are you kidding Me?” Then He would proceed to included three passages. More could have been presented, but His knew He had offered sufficient proof. Here is what He included in His rebuttal, evidence that would be offered as it was coming out of my mouth, evidence that shows in many ways neither you nor myself or too old!

“I will sing to the Lord as long as I live.
I will sing praise to my God while I have being.” (Psalm 104:33 ESV)

“I have been young and now I am old,
Yet I have not seen the righteous (those in right standing with God) abandoned,
or his descendants pleading for bread.” (Psalm 37:25 The Amplified Bible)

Thus, will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name. My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips: when I remember thee upon my bed and meditate on thee in the night watches. Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice.” (Psalm 63:4-7 KJV)

All the above is “cool” in my world. Know this for sure, no matter what your age, somebody younger than you will think you are “too old,” and even “too old to be cool.” My advice to you, call on my Counselor, His name is Jesus. He is called many things good, but He is definitely one who never lost a case!  I imagine Him saying, “Too old to sing praises to the Lord? No! Too old to count on the Lord not abandoning believers? No! Too old to be satisfied with God, to praise Him with joyful lips, to meditate on Him, to look back at how He has helped us, too old to realize He protects us, or too old to rejoice? No! Are you kidding?” Be blessed!

Committed to the climb,

Mark L. King
