“This hope [this confident assurance] we have as an anchor of the soul [it cannot slip, and it cannot break down under whatever pressure bears upon it]—a safe and steadfast hope that enters within the veil [of the heavenly temple, that most Holy Place in which the very presence of God dwells].” (Hebrews 6:19 The Amplified Bible)
I read an article in Boat World, as you would guess targeted at present boat owners and future boat owner. The focus was on anchor selection. Read on because even if you have no boat, you have a soul.
Let me share three things with you, two from the content of the article, written by a aquatic expert, and one based on content in the scriptures, written by authors inspired by the One who is all-knowing, omniscient, and an expert in any area of life.
The article stated at the beginning, “Anchoring is a crucial aspect of boating, and the right anchor can provide stability, safety and peace of mind for any sailor. Choosing the correct type and size of anchor is essential, as it can greatly impact your overall experience on the water.” At the end of the article, after talking about the purpose of anchors and the various types of anchors, I read the concluding statement, “A properly sized and suited anchor will offer peace of mind, ensuring your vessel remains securely moored during your adventures on the water.”
The quotes from the article relate to anchoring a boat. Now the third thing I want to share with you has nothing to deal with boats or ships of any size, but rather about souls, and advice that is relevant to all of us, believers and unbelievers, who want an anchor that gives them peace, assurance, and security. What is this advice? It’s simple: Your soul needs to be anchored in the Lord. Dougles Miller put what I just said in song, and it substantiates, validates my advice. Revisit the lyrics he composed and be lifted up, even before you enter the sanctuary this morning. Be blessed!
“Though the storms keep on raging in my life and sometimes it’s hard to tell the night from day.
Still that hope that lies within is reassured as I keep my eyes upon the distant shore, I know He’ll lead me safely to that blessed place He has prepared.
But if the storms don’t cease, and if the winds keep on blowing in my life. My soul has been anchored in, in the Lord.
Oh, I realize that sometimes in this life, we’re gonna be tossed by the waves and the currents that seem so fierce. Butt in the Word of God, I’ve got an anchor. And it keeps me steadfast and unmovable despite the tides. But if, if the storms don’t cease and just in case the winds, they keep on blowing in my life.
my soul, my soul’s been anchored in, in the Lord.”
