WHEN YOU RISE THIS MORNING…

“I lay down and slept [safely]; I awakened, for the Lord sustains me. I will not be intimidated or afraid of the ten thousands who have set themselves against me all around.” (Psalm 3:5-6 The Amplified Bible)

I love watching videos of the Mississippi Mass Choir Singing, “When I Rose This Morning.” Do you remember some of the lyrics? Well, just in case you don’t, let me share some of them with you. “This morning when I rose, yeah… (I didn’t have no doubt). This morning when I rose, yeah… (I didn’t have no doubt). This morning when I rose, yeah… (I didn’t have no doubt). I know the Lord (will take care of me). I know the Lord (will provide for me). And I know He will (Lead and guide me all the way). Yes, He will (Yes, all the way).”

Now before you tell your electronic device to play this inspiring song or before you go into imitation mode, walking around the house imitating the choir’s lead singer, let us turn our attention on you as you rise up this morning.  Let’s extract some emphasized realities found in the excellent verses of admonition from Psalm 3, printed above. (1) You slept safely last night, for the Lord watched over you. Praise God! (2) When you woke up this morning, you realized that the Lord sustained you through the night and that He will still sustain you through this day. Praise God! (3) You will face some situations, some stuff that will come against you, and several thoughts, troubles, or temptations that will surround you in hopes of bringing you down in one way or the other. Think about “bringing you down” for a moment; down to where your joy is gone, down to where you have to contend with what is opposing you, down to where you submit to the lower standards of the world, or down to the point where you become stagnant and abandon your commitment to the climb. But now, think about God!  Praise God! Why? Here is the answer, (4) We don’t have to be intimidated or afraid, regardless of the size of whatever is set against us!  The Lord, I said, “The Lord,” He is on our side! Now, start singing, “I didn’t have no doubt!”  Praise God one more time!

Friend, be lifted up this Wednesday morning! Clothe yourself in the blessing of the Lord!  Have a wonderful, fearless, faith-walking day!  God’s got you!  Be blessed!

“Real help comes from God. Your blessing clothes your people!” (Psalm 3:8 The Message Bible)

Committed to the climb,

Mark L. King
