“He who has ears to hear, let him hear and heed My words.” (Matthew 11:15 The Amplified Version)
I was walking from the parking lot to the store when a young man was heading my direction, his lips moving as he were talking to me. He was far enough at first that I could not hear him. I only thought he was speaking to me. I was wrong! As he got closer, it became apparent that he was reciting words to a rap song. He never skipped a beat and seemingly remembered every single word and knew exactly where to change his tone and modify his cadence. Obviously, he had memorized every single word of the song that he had heard. He passed me by, nodding his head, no intention of speaking but rather he intending to stay in synch with the music in his mind. My point? Do I have a point? Yes! My point is that this young man seemed to greatly exceed the retention rate that studies provide regarding our listening and retention skills. He demonstrated that we can remember what we really want to remember.
Now, with this being Monday, and I am sure you heard a word from the Lord yesterday, let me ask you a few questions. Let’s see if you were listening and retaining. Questions: (1) Do you remember the title of the sermon you heard? (2) Do you remember the focal text the preacher announced? (3) Most likely there were a few main points to support the title. However, without looking at your notes, assuming you took some, can you name two of the main points? How about one? (4) Were you listening and retaining? Let me take it a step further than the title. (5) Are you heeding, following the message as it applies to your life?
My friend, this was your Monday Short meditation. Have a great day! Be blessed!
