I WONDER WHAT THEY WOULD SAY NOW!

“Now the Jews murmured and found fault with Him because He said, “I am the Bread that came down out of heaven.” They kept saying, “Is this not Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How does He now [have the arrogance to] say, ‘I have come down out of heaven’?” (John 6:41-42 The Amplified Bible)

In third grade I was pulled out of my class a couple of times of the week to get special help with speech. I wonder what Mrs. Sweatman would say now, as I have been speaking in from of crowds, congregations, children, and convocations since 1971. What would my freshmen orientation teacher say, Mr. Umphrey, who gave me the only “F” I ever saw on my report card during high school, since my biography would include teaching at the secondary and post- secondary level, up to the highest undergraduate level of courses. What would he say now, if he knew that I received the Adjunct Professor Of The Year award at a Division One university?

And what about Mrs. Dean who did not think I had a single, singing talent thread when she was told to go back to my homeroom because I did not have vocalist potential? What would she say now that I sing in the church choir and even have sung solos referred to as “my song.”  Mrs. Davis, the Art teacher did not pick me as one with a gift needed to decorate the school windows for the Christmas holiday? What would she say now, if it was brought to her attention that I decorated the vestibule, lobby, hallways, training room, and three conference rooms at a company that is known for home décor?

What about those who never saw me as a leader? What would they say now that I have pastored for near three and a half decades at the same church? What would Sargent Martin say now. Sargent Martin, the lead security officer at a local high school, not my school but rather one I visited, unauthorized, during the school day as opposed to my own school, and he chased me and a friend who would have been a co-defendant if caught, off campus. What would he say now?

Would they say about yours truly, “I guess God was not through with him yet!”

Enough about me, my friend. Here’s the point, if you keep holding on to God’s unchanging hand and if you keep making yourself available to Him and if you focus on God through your prayer life and study of the word, you will be able to make these words your own, “I guess God was not through with me yet!” I know this was not the Monday Short you were looking for, but may the major point of today’s meditation stay with you a long time.  God wants to do great things through you, and He is not done with you, not yet!

A final word, appropriate for an ending. I wonder what those who thought Jesus was being arrogant and only a carpenter’s son would say now in view of these facts: He was The Almighty Son of God who took on flesh and dwelt among us, and the Christ who saved us? What would they say now? What do you say? Have a wonderful day! Be blessed!

“Saul spent a few days getting acquainted with the Damascus disciples, but then went right to work, wasting no time, preaching in the meeting places that this Jesus was the Son of God. They were caught off guard by this and, not at all sure they could trust him, they kept saying, “Isn’t this the man who wreaked havoc in Jerusalem among the believers? And didn’t he come here to do the same thing—arrest us and drag us off to jail in Jerusalem for sentencing by the high priests? “But their suspicions didn’t slow Saul down for even a minute. His momentum was up now, and he plowed straight into the opposition, disarming the Damascus Jews and trying to show them that this Jesus was the Messiah.” (Acts 9:19-22 The Message Bible)
