THE OPEN DOOR POLICY

“Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.” (Psalm 55:22 NIV)

It’s been over 13 years since I worked as a HR Executive, yet every once and a while I still get calls from associates at various levels seeking advice at no charge. That’s okay, as long as I can be helpful. This week I had one of those calls, asking me about my former company’s “Open Door” policy. I don’t work for an insurance company, but like a good neighbor I was ready to help.

I reviewed the associates’ options per the company’s communicated policy. First option: Work through your chain of command. Second option: If your immediate manager does not or will not help you, or if your concern, contention, and complaint pertain to that manager, you can go to that person’s boss. Third option: You can go straight to the General Manager if you so desire but note that there is a possibility that he/she might be reluctant to help and merely redirects you to your immediate manager to “work through the chain of command.” Fourth option: You can go to the local Manager of Human Resources. Fifth option: You can call the “800” number and relate your concern anonymously if you so choose to, keeping your identity secret. I closed by saying, ‘You have five options to consider, and that’s a handful, no pun intended.

Thank God that as Christians we don’t have to go through a chain of command or contemplate on which option to go to with concerns. We can go directly to the Lord and talk to Him, even without an appointment. He is available twenty-four hours, seven days a week. He will hear you and respond accordingly. Now, I should tell you that sometimes He will tell you that the resolution to your matter is mainly a change you will have to make in your thinking, conduct, or normal ways of doing things. Whatever the Lord tells you, know it is wise counsel and correct. Have a fantastic Friday! Be blessed!

“Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16 NIV)

Committed to the climb,
