“First giving honor to God who is the head of my life.” (An often-heard testimony.)
Wednesday, I pulled a black T-Shirt out of the closet that had the word “BOSS” printed on it in white letters. I immediately asked my wife if that was hers. She said, “No! I brought it for you.” I replied, “Are you sure, I thought I have seen you wearing it.” She shook her head and repeated, “It’s yours.” I wore it, but all the time I was thinking, “Who should be wearing it, her or me?” “Who is really the boss around the house?” The words I often hear on home search programs televised on HGTV are, “Happy wife, happy life.” The “BOSS” T-shirt may be mine, but who really is the boss? I’m the one retired and has more time to do whatever “honey do” task I am “asked” to do. I do believe that I should be considered the head of the house and serve my wife as Christ served the church. Furthermore, I get it about being submissive to one another. Yet I’m thinking, “Was that T-Shirt gift intended to send me a message or to mess with me? Was it psyching me into thinking that I would always be right? The “BOSS” T-shirt was causing me to do too much thinking. So, after wearing it to the store, I changed into a plain, black polo shirt. Whatever the motive behind the giving of the gift, I’m glad we don’t have disarray, disgruntlement, or a lot of dissension in our home. I’m not saying we never differ in viewpoints, but we work it out when we do because we know the real “BOSS” of the house. He’s God. Unlike some athletes and celebrities that seem to use the phrase above typically, frivolously and meaningless, my wife and I really mean it when we say the familiar words above. Have a great Saturday! Opps! I got to get the laundry done! Smile! Be blessed!
“But I want you to realize that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God.” (I Corinthians 11:3 NIV)
P.S. “THE BOSS” will be looking for you in church tomorrow!
Committed to the climb,
Mark L. King
