“But I am trusting you to save me.” (Psalm 55:23b The Living Bible)
Just in case you are in a hurry to get to the house of God, let me tell you that the verse you just read is a perfect prescription for personal predicaments. Read it again before proceeding to read the rest of this meditation.
True Story: Sitting in the lounge chair in second floor hallway at a local hospital I saw a man who was waiting to be called back to the Records Department. He was decked in a baseball hat for one team, and a baseball shirt for another team. Let’s refer to him as the “first man.” I wondered if the two teams on his attire were scheduled to play that day, and he did not want to take any chances on not being able to say that he had picked the winner in advance. Another young man, who we shall refer to as the “second man,” comes up the stairs, passes near where I was sitting, and he walks down to the other end of the hallway, right where the “first man” is sitting. The two men recognize each other immediately. They embrace each other, similar to how sports figures do after one hits a winning shot as time expires. After the embrace, they go through a series of handshake moves, three manipulative hand moves at a minimum, and they nailed it without any rehearsal. Man! I got to enroll in the handshake class!
Let me continue. The first man says, “As soon as I get done here, I’m going to pick up my check.” The second man says, “Got to pay them bills, right?” The first man responds, “I need more money than what that little check will handle! I got some unexpected bills that came in the mail earlier that I thought!” The second man is bold and asks, “Are you still going to the same church?” The first man says, “No.” And then he attempts to skip hearing any church talk, saying, “I’m trying to get my hustle on, and I am thinking about taking a chance on some lottery tickets or a little online sports gambling or a trip to the casino that my friends told me about.” The second man gets back to some church talk, actually some scriptural talk, and replies, “It would be better to put your trust in God as opposed to folly or the foolish advice of friends who don’t have any interest in the Lord.” I said to myself, “That boy has been to Bible Study somewhere! Don’t judge a book by its cover.” Praise the Lord! The first man obviously did not like the direction that the conversation was headed, so he says, “Nice seeing you! Look I got to go to the restroom really quick. I’ll catch up with you another day.” In my estimation, the first man was set on avoiding the second man like avoiding the most contagious plague in the world. Too bad and too sad, right?
Well, I’m sure that you will not run away from the advice of the faithful. I’m sure you will be one that makes a personal decision to trust in the Lord, like the Psalmist, when you need a perfect prescription for a personal predicament. Am I right about it or am I right about it? I hope so! Have a wonderful worship experience today! Be blessed!
“Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us.” (Psalm 62:8 English Standard Version)
