“I will praise you to all my brothers; I will stand up before the congregation and testify of the wonderful things you have done. “Praise the Lord, each one of you who fears him,” I will say. “Each of you must fear and reverence his name…” (Psalm 22:22-23 The Living Bible)
If you have an old bible that you brought at a garage sale, picked up at a Goodwill Store, or you have a keepsake version that was given to you by a relative, take a look through it. Most of the time you will find some notations in the broad space, some highlighted sections, and sometimes, unattached notes. Let me give you an example of the latter.
In the dining room sitting on top of a stack of color coordinated books, there is a small, green bible. My practice, even when using books for décor is that bibles are always placed on top, never hidden below a stack of any well-written, bound books, regardless of if the authors of the other works are well-known or not. Why? Because the latter works are incapable of, and unable to compete with the inspired word of God.
This particular bible, the small, green one, is a keepsake given to my wife by her sister. It is a precious remnant from the latter’s days as a helicopter technician in the Air Force where she performed some incredible work for our country. Amazing, right? Thursday, after dinner I picked up that small, green bible, suspecting that my sister-in-law had left a note or something in it for a purpose. Well, as it relates to you and me, the purpose is being fulfilled in this Monday Short meditation. “How so?” you may ask. I’ll tell you by sharing what was on the note. It said, “When the praises go up, the walls come down.” We usually say, “When the praises go up, the blessings come down.” I like both sayings, but the latter saying made me think about the children of Israel who walked as instructed by God, following his directions, and the walls of Jericho came tumbling down. Oh, if you want some walls to come down this week, don’t stop praising the Lord! Be included in the believers who utter the saying, “Praise is what I do.” Let’s bring down some walls in our lives! Be blessed!
“So the people shouted when the priests blew the trumpets. And it happened when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat. Then the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city.” (Joshua 6:20 New King James Version)
