THE STAR IN THE STORY!

“Jesus was born in the town of Bethlehem, in Judea, during the reign of King Herod. At about that time some astrologers from eastern lands arrived in Jerusalem, asking, “Where is the newborn King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in far-off eastern lands and have come to worship him.” King Herod was deeply disturbed by their question, and all Jerusalem was filled with rumors. He called a meeting of the Jewish religious leaders. “Did the prophets tell us where the Messiah would be born?” he asked. “Yes, in Bethlehem,” they said, “for this is what the prophet Micah wrote: ‘O little town of Bethlehem, you are not just an unimportant Judean village, for a Governor shall rise from you to rule my people, Israel.’” Then Herod sent a private message to the astrologers, asking them to come to see him; at this meeting he found out from them the exact time when they first saw the star. Then he told them, “Go to Bethlehem and search for the child. And when you find him, come back and tell me so that I can go and worship him too!” After this interview the astrologers started out again. And look! The star appeared to them again, standing over Bethlehem. Their joy knew no bounds!” (Matthew 2:1-11 The Living Bible)

There are several key persons mentioned in the scriptures above, all related to the Christmas season that is upon us. However, we should really focus on the star in the story, a Person who light has shined through the darkness for centuries.

Who is the star in the story! It is not the king, who was less powerful than his title suggested. It is another who is cloaked in royalty. It is not the intellectual, perceptive, observant astrologers, but rather it is one whose intellect is unparalleled by any being on this earth, past, present, and future. It is not the religious leaders who held a meeting, but rather it is one who can meet all our needs. Who is this star?

It is not the inspired writer, but it is the One who gave us His presence to dwell within us and inspire us continually to do good deeds and live as God divine desires. It is not really the physical star in the sky, for it cannot compete with the One by which everything was created. Who is this star?

The star in Jesus! He is the One who is the star in the scriptures above and He should be shining through your life, since He lives in you. Jesus is the star!  Jesus is the star! Jesus is the star! I know this is not a revealed secret to you, but it is a worthwhile reminder and worth repeating! Jesus us the star! Furthermore, just as the astrologers rejoiced, so should you too! Rejoice! Don’t wait until the December 25th, rejoice now! Be blessed!

Committed to the climb,

Mark L. King
