Arriving early for Sunday School with her grandmother and one of her sisters, a saint who is always on time, a young girl, a darling sociable preschooler, after giving hugs and hellos to the adults, came up to me, the senior pastor. Knowing I was approachable. She may have been holding back on this question for a little while, but not Sunday. Noticing one of my canine teeth was missing, she asked as she looked dead into my eyes, “Where is your tooth?” I said, “It’s at home. I just don’t wear it anymore.” Pursuing the truth about the tooth, she persisted in her interrogation, “Where is your real tooth?” To satisfy her curiosity, surrendering to her persistence, I told her how I lost the tooth years ago. There is more to this story that would make you cry laughing, but I will just say that this child’s search for the tooth, I mean truth was successful. She was set free from curiosity.
This is a true story. You cannot make up this stuff. But there is something profitable for us in this story. It gives me an opportunity to challenge you to get in God’s word more, learn more about Jesus’ teachings, and embrace the truth that He gives us. Don’t just be curious about what the word of God says about a subject! Go to the Lord in prayer to open your eyes, knowing that He is the epitome of approachability, and ask Him to set you free from your curiosity. At the end of your search, you can go away feeling set free, just as the young girl described above.
Do as Paul states in his epistle to Timothy, “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth (2 Timothy 2:15 KJV). My friend, don’t be curious, get the truth! As always, “Be blessed!”
“And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” (John 8:31 NKJV)
