DON’T MISS THE MARCH! MARCH ON!

The admonition to accompany the above title is not from this author, not even from this present age. This admonishment comes from a composer who wrote the words below in 1865, S. Baring-Gould. He composed the song we know as “Onward Christian Soldiers.” It’s an old hymn, often forgotten in present times, but its content is a forever applicable, especially in these times where we need to be encouraged to march on. Take a look at them before you head out to church this morning.

Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war,
With the cross of Jesus going on before.
Christ, the royal Master, leads against the foe;
Forward into battle see His banners go!

Refrain:
Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war,
With the cross of Jesus going on before.

At the sign of triumph Satan’s host doth flee;
On then, Christian soldiers, on to victory!
Hell’s foundations quiver at the shout of praise;
Brothers, lift your voices, loud your anthems raise.

Like a mighty army moves the church of God;
Brothers, we are treading where the saints have trod.
We are not divided, all one body we,
One in hope and doctrine, one in charity.

Crowns and thrones may perish, kingdoms rise and wane,
But the church of Jesus constant will remain.
Gates of hell can never ’gainst that church prevail;
We have Christ’s own promise, and that cannot fail.

Onward then, ye people, join our happy throng,
Blend with ours your voices in the triumph song.
Glory, laud, and honor unto Christ the King,
This through countless ages men and angels sing.

Be edified, educated, encouraged, and equipped for spiritual warfare in service today! March on spiritual warriors, march on for the Lord! Walls will come down, just as was the case when the Israelites marched around the city of Jericho! March on and see a difference! Be blessed!

Committed to the climb,

Mark L. King
