DEAR FATHERS!

“Think of yourselves the way Christ Jesus thought of himself. He had equal status with God but didn’t think so much of himself that he had to cling to the advantages of that status no matter what. Not at all. When the time came, he set aside the privileges of deity and took on the status of a slave, became human! Having become human, he stayed human. It was an incredibly humbling process. He didn’t claim special privileges. Instead, he lived a selfless, obedient life and then died a selfless, obedient death—and the worst kind of death at that—a crucifixion.” (Philippians 2:5-11 The Message Bible)

Dear Fathers:

If you want to be a great dad, you may have to come down. Come down from being wrapped up in pride and be adorned with humility. You may have to come down from placing too much weight on getting ahead, and instead, get your children to the Head of the Church, who is Jesus the Christ! Yes! Align yourself with the words on your Father’s Day cards that you receive today, words that make you feel like you are somebody. Don’t just be satisfied with feeling like somebody but actually be somebody by aligning your life with the will of our Heavenly Father. The cards you receive will be filled with flattering words, but if the flattery is filled with words that don’t fit, come down in submission to the Lord and walk by faith. When you do so, you will find that all the accolades and the crescendo of compliments expressed on the greeting cards will become actual descriptions of you, a godly father.

If you want to be a great Dad, follow the example of the One featured in the motion picture drama, “The Greatest Story Ever Told.” If you have never seen that movie, look at The Great One who came from heaven, became human, and as the verse says above, “stayed human,” “went through an incredibly humbling process,” laid aside His special privilege, “lived a selfless, obedient life,” and died for the sake of all God’s children.

Be a great dad, realizing the way to greatness is to come down from being concerned about getting and be about giving your children an example of how to live holy and how to live right.

If any father receives this and assumes that they are already great, realize that no matter how old your children may be, you can be better. “Better” is always ahead!  Happy Father’s Day!  Be blessed!

Committed to the climb,
