“I was crying out to the Lord with my voice, and He answered me from His holy mountain.” Selah – (Psalm 3:4 NASB)
Let me explain the source of my inspiration for this Monday Short meditation before I explain the meaning in the title above. A young woman I have known since her early childhood made plans to celebrate her 40th birthday. Now, let’s be honest. Many young people, including young adults, when asked what they want to do for their birthday, they express a desire to go to their favorite restaurant, take a shopping trip for a much-desired item, or even take in a movie and dinner. Some will prefer to stay in and have a party where friends will shower them with gifts.
Well, that was not the case with the young woman I have known for about 35 years. Instead of receiving gifts she was moved by the Spirit working in her to have a “Twas’ the Night Before 40” celebration at a place of worship. The occasion was entitled “SELAH WITH ABBA,” and she put on a one-person performance where she sang praises and worship songs, intermingled with pauses for prayer, personal testimonies, and enticement to propel the attendees to focus on Abba, our Father which art in heaven. Attendees were encouraged, among other things, to express thanks to the Father for what He had done, what He is doing, and all were uplifted by her sincere, heart-filled, spiritual oratory interludes.
Yes, it was a one-person performance in a sanctuary that could seat a little over 200 people, but there was no charge and what the audience was treated to ranked just as high as if they were attending a high-profile star’s performance at any of the world’s greatest concert halls. It was a night to remember.
The young woman was focused on giving, not getting. She stressed that regardless of what the attendees were going through or in spite of the challenges they will face in their places and spaces, they can always have a “SELAH WITH ABBA.” I’m sure you know, but just in case, when you see “Selah” in the bible, found in verses at the end of certain Psalms (71 times) or in The Book of Habakkuk, it signifies one should take a pause. The pause can be used for a musical interlude, singing, reflection, or a time to give God the praise he is surely worthy of receiving. I think the birthday lady used them all and she used them quite effectively. Listen! If you are working at the workplace or if you are working at home, if you are just staying at home, or if you are on a busy vacation, perhaps even a cruise, in either of these cases, don’t just take your regular breaks. You are encouraged to take more than one break today! Take some “SELAH WITH ABBA” breaks! I guarantee that you will feel much better and your view for the future will be optimistic as you put your trust in God.
I know, this was supposed to be a Monday Short, but I had to put today’s title in perspective. Take the breaks! Have a great day! Be blessed!
“For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading again to fear [of God’s judgment], but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons [the Spirit producing sonship] by which we [joyfully] cry, “Abba! Father!” (Romans 8:14 Amplified Bible)
Committed to the climb,

This young woman is unique and joyfully serves the Lord. It is not surprising to learn what her purpose and intent was in performing “T’was the Night Before 40”. I am reminded that God’s blessings are continual and thus our praise should also come in that same form.
Great personal reflection and application, as always! Thanks, Gloria for your response!
