DRIVING A POINT HOME

For this is how God loved the world: He gavehis one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16 NLT)

Most states require car insurance.  Once source says one in eight drivers have no auto assurance.  Another says that 20% of drivers have no auto insurance.  The numbers reported are just a snapshot of the reality of how many people don’t have auto insurance because these statistics are based on claims.  So recognize that omitted from these statistics are the non-insured drivers who achieve anonymity by agreements to settle accidents, even awful mishaps, without submitting claims to the insurance carrier for one reason or the other.  The trend of driving without insurance is costly to those without insurance and those who have insurance.

Connected to the subject of driving, let me share a speculation.  I don’t have any statistics regarding the decline in people who receive their license without going through Driver’s Education, a formal high school course required in my days and people are not paying the hundreds of dollars that were charged at one time by a private driving schools.  Now note again that I’m just speculating, but my conjecture is based on my observations of the number of people who obviously do not know what it means to turn on red, stop and look both ways before pulling out of a parking lot, gas station, or apartment complex and individuals who ignore the fact that posted speed signs actually mean something.  “Costly” comes to mind again, because the lack of training results in accidents where the costs of accidents that could have been avoided rise and/or the costs of medical care required because of accidents are incurred, or even the sad costs associated with the loss of lives.

Okay, you did not open this meditation to read about auto insurance and the ascending costs caused by the relaxed rules for driver’s education.  So, staying on the subject of driving let me focus on driving a point home.  People need assurance, not insurance, but assurance, and they need training.

Yes, multitudes, high percentages across our land; many people driving on the streets of your city, they need both assurance and training.  What’s the cost associated with this dual need?  It’s free!  Assurance, blessed assurance, is gained by recognizing and responding to the familiar opening verse written above.  The need for training is supported by the Scripture in the closing verse.  How can we communicate this to others?  Let me share a technique I picked up watching a movie recently.  Take your cell phone and send this meditation to all your contacts!  Yes, all of them!  Make the heading on your message: “PEOPLE NEED ASSURANCE AND TRAINING!”

After doing so, put a smile on your face, knowing that you have been involved in evangelism today.  Some will reject your message, but some will read it, receive it in their heart, and respond to it.  And, if they follow what you did, they will send this same message, “play it forward,” in other words, to more people, surely including some lost souls.  I know, it’s another assignment, but I did not make it up.  Jesus said, “Go ye therefore and make disciples.”  He also said, “You shall be my witnesses.”  Let’s get busy and drive the point home!  Be blessed!

“Every part of Scripture is God-breathed and useful one way or another—showing us truth, exposing our rebellion, correcting our mistakes, training us to live God’s way.  Through the Word we are put together and shaped up for the tasks God has for us.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17 MSG)

Still committed to the climb,

Mark L. King
