ICY HOT FAITH

“Because you’re not yet taking God seriously,” said Jesus. “The simple truth is that if you had a mere kernel of faith, a poppy seed, say, you would tell this mountain, ‘Move!’ and it would move. There is nothing you wouldn’t be able to tackle.” (Matthew 17:20 The Message Bible)

In yesterday’s meditation, I informed you that I would share another sub-point, one of major importance, made in Pastor Marcus R. King’s sermon last Sunday He used an illustration referring to the pain medication Icy Hot. He pointed out that many of us have used this product or similar products as a pain relief treatment. Continuing with the analogy, he pointed out that such products work and relax the pain, but they do not remedy the cause of the pain.

He then revealed that too many people, Christians included, are living by icy hot faith when they are facing a touch circumstance, a tough test, or a tough trial. For a true remedy we were informed that we need to look at the source of our trouble and get it treated and defeated. Continuing, he pointed out from his text, that we need to be like the woman who touched the hem of Jesus’ garment and was made well. Here trouble was treated and defeated!  Praise God because He we can still go to Him today!

Pastor did not mince words or minimize the strength of his admonition when he made it clear that we need to get to the One who can help us, heal us, and overcome what has been a hindrance, stuff that everything else we tried could not produce a healing. Yes, we need to take it to Jesus. He is the One who can fix whatever it is, even if it is fixing ourselves. Somebody say, “Watch out, now!” But be transparent and acknowledge that sometimes that is necessary, right! There is a song by Norman Hutchins that our choir sings and I sing the lead, and I am using the word “sing” liberally. Nevertheless, the some of the lyrics say, “I gave Jesus all my troubles and on Him I cast my every care, He took away my troubles. and right now I feel alright.”

Look, I just shared what I took from having ears to hear what this saith the Lord. Now, it is up to you to step out on faith, move away from Icy Faith with its temporary solutions and go to experience “The Touch” by  Jesus.  Have a great day! Be well! Be blessed!

“And He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace and be cured of your disease.” (Mark 5:34 NASB)

Committed to the climb,

Mark L. King
