Dr. King, my lovely wife, is not an eye doctor, but an educator. But her eyes might tend to disagree with what I know and grant her the highest honorary degree in Eye Functionality. Let me tell you why. A month ago, Dr. King was in Chicago, visiting one of our sons and his family. While she was gone, it was business as usual, including my going to the grocery store. One of Dr. King’s favorite snacks are stick pretzels. So, I made sure to purchase a bag of pretzels while I was shopping in order that they would be sitting on the kitchen counter, waiting patiently for her return. As I unloaded the groceries, somehow, somehow, I ripped the pretzel bag. However, I still hadn’t lost that ability to think quick as I have been guilty of doing when I broke something as a child, getting things to look pretty much okay one way or the other. Yes, I applied that ability automatically almost instinctively. I looked in one of the kitchen cabinets and pulled out a large, never been used before food storage container. I dumped the pretzels into the container, thinking that I would never be questioned about why I didn’t keep them in the bag. My error, in my mind, was out of sight.
The pretzels were relaxed in the large plastic container, undisturbed, untouched, and unspoiled. When my wife returned, she had something to put up in the kitchen. Wouldn’t you know it? She noticed the pretzels in the large plastic container. Nothing got by the good doctor’s eyes! She asked two questions in a loving tone, “What happened to the pretzel bag?” “Did it tear!” I responded truthfully, with part of me laughing and another part saying, “You just got busted!” I explained that the bag tore “all by itself!” Smile! We shared a long laugh. Nothing escapes the eyes of Dr. King. Nothing! So, knowing that, I just confessed up right away.
Did you read the opening verse? Well, read it again. The eyes of the Lord see everything! Yes, everything. Yes, His eyes are on the sparrow, and you know He watches over you. But He also sees what you do. He sees your successes in living as a Christian ought, and He sees your failings when you are not living as you should. The Holy Spirit will speak to you and let you know when you mess up. When that happens, like my case with my wife and the pretzels, you need to confess up right away, get things fixed, find forgiveness, and forge ahead doing what He expects you to do. There is no hiding. He sees not only your actions, but He also sees the activity of your mind. You better get your mind stayed on Jesus, my friend. Today, don’t forget, “The Eyes.” Take note! Our God is omnipresent and omniscient. Be blessed!
