FILL YOUR CUP WITH WISDOM

“You are so filled with ideas that nothing more will fit. Empty your cup and come back to me so I can fill it with wisdom” (Paraphrase of an oriental saying)

I was watching the movie 2012 one morning. There was one scene in the movie where a man living in the Eastern part of the world came to one of his respected masters. He asked the master about the possibility of the world coming to an end. The master proceeded to fill the young man’s cup until it overflowed. Quickly the young man told the master that the cup was overflowing. The master gave the young man a stern look and told him something to this effect, “Like this cup, overflowing, so are you. You must empty it so you can gain wisdom.”

There are so many things that fill our minds, especially in these days where technology has made it possible for all kinds of thoughts, trends, theories, teachings, opinions, and obvious erroneous information to beset us. If we are not careful, culture and cynical input will unconsciously impact the way we think and the way we behave. If we are not careful, we will find ourselves conforming to the world, as opposed to being transformed by God’s word.

It is wise that we examine ourselves, take an inventory of what has been permitted to enter our minds, impressions that are not in synch with the word of God. In other words, we must empty our cups, our minds, meditate on the Lord’s word, and let that fill our cup with godly wisdom.

Today, Sunday, when you come into the Lord’s special presence in the sanctuary, empty your cup so that you can fill your cup with wisdom. Fill you cup with, “Thus saith the Lord.”

May your life be further transformed today as you hear the specific message that God has sent by His specific messenger, specifically for you! Be blessed!

“For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding.” (Proverbs 2:6 NASB)

Committed to the climb,

Mark L. King

    1. You are a good example of how refiling and refueling gives you strength to make it through what we call “This” and “That.” Be blessed!
