VICTORIOUS EYES

“Everything about him was old about him except his eyes and they were the same color as the sea, and they were cheerful and undefeated. (Quote from “The Old Man and the Sea” written by Ernest Hemingway between 1950-1951, published in 1952)

The character described in the extract above, taken from Ernest Hemingway’s novel, reminded me of how the eyes of believers who have made it, by the grace of God, or believers who have gone through a long life of hardship, and even believers who are tempted to lose sight of the fact that no matter what they are going through, they have help, and one day, they will see their Helper face to face.

To the latter believers mentioned above, I encourage you to let your eyes have a distinct look, not one of defeat, but one that is much like the old man in Hemingway’s novel. You see, there should be a sense of cheer, call it joy, and a sense of victory as opposed to defeat seen in your eyes, always. Yes, whatever you are going through or whenever you must go through, let people see your victorious eyes. For help with conforming to this counsel, read the Psalm below. Notice what he does with his eyes. They are victorious eyes. Be blessed!

“I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.
