THE APPLAUSE SIGN JUST WENT UP!

“She opens her mouth with wisdom, and on her tongue is the law of kindness.  She watches over the ways of her household, and does not eat the bread of idleness.” (Proverbs 31:26-27 NKJV)

From 1967 until 1971, as I’m sure I told you before, I worked at a local television station, an affiliate of NBC.  My primary job was “Film & Tape Librarian.”  My job was to get edited films and video tapes to the control room on the day they were to air and after airing send them on to another TV station owned by NBC.  One time when I was bringing in the films and tapes I watched the work of the producer and engineers in the booth.  Looking beyond the glass at the front of booth I could see the live morning talk show being aired.  Sure, I looked at the star of the show and admired his skill and I felt privileged to be so near famous guests on the set, but what caught my eye at this particular time was the job that the “prop boy” was doing.  Particularly, how he would hold up large cue cards; nicely printed signs prompting the live audience to laugh, cheer, or clap their hands to applaud something that had been stated on the set.

Well this Sunday morning, I want you to imagine me holding up an applause sign, a much deserved applause sign for all the Christian mothers, grandmothers, and mother figures, living or gone home to be with the Lord.  Imagine this applause sign just went up, urging you to clap your hands vigorously and very loudly.  Picture me holding the sign up for a long time, but as you will soon see, it really can’t ever be too long to give these women our applause.

What made me write about this today?  Well, it was not because mothers, grandmothers, and mother figures should be blessed with a Valentine Day card for all the love they showed us and all the love we have for them.  It’s not because it is fitting to give special attention to these women on days other than Mother’s Day.  I was prompted to write this because my oldest daughter sent me a text Thursday night and asked me to put her three oldest children on the email list for the Mark Writes Daily meditations!  Now that’s a blessing; ensuring that her children receive a mini-lesson inspired by Scripture every day!

So, even though I still cannot do the Electric slide, I am holding the applause sign up and prompting you to “Clap. Clap, Clap your hands!  Clap, clap, clap your hands!”  As you do, give thanks to God (Thanks is always next!); give thanks to God for the virtuous women who played a major role in helping you become who you are; a child of God.  When you get a chance, send them a text or look to heaven as if you are speaking directly to those who are present with the Lord and give them a shout out of gratitude and an appreciative applause!  Now, have a good day at Sunday service!  Be blessed!

“Her children rise up and call her blessed…” (Proverbs 31:28a NKJV)

Still committed to the climb,

Mark L. King
