As a rerun from” It’s A Different World” came to an end, there was a closing shot of a little pink pillow with these words, “You are never too rich to be poor.” I’m not sure what the message was intended to communicate to viewers, but two scriptures registered in my mind. Let me share them with you this Tuesday morning.
The first thing I thought of is found in the Beatitudes where Jesus stated, ““Happy are those who know they are spiritually poor; the Kingdom of heaven belongs to them (Good News Bible).” This the first step in becoming rich spiritually; rich in humility, rich in knowing that one needs Jesus as their Savior, and this is the start to living a life of faith, regardless of the size of your bank account, your beloved paycheck, or basically your valued earthly wealth. I saw this as positive because it reminds reminded me of the fact that the door to the church is open to everyone, including the high and mighty and those who may see themselves financially poor and need to see their plight in life on a better perspective. The little pink pillow is right, “You are never too rich to be poor.” Thinking of the saying on the little pink pillow from that perspective conveys a positive message and reminds us that not only those suffering or in situations that have no remedy for real problems need to turn to Jesus, but those who have reached the highest stratosphere of monetary wealth need to turn to Jesus to circumvent being poor spiritually. Invite the spiritually poor to become rich in Jesus Christ.
The second thing that came to my mind was a verse that should catch the attention of the rich who mistakenly think they do not need Jesus. Consider the message in this another bible verse and see how it connects with the message on the little pink pillow. “For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his own soul?”
Share this meditation with others. You will either bolster a believer’s self-esteem, or you will shed some light on the wealthy who have yet to come to Jesus. Finally, consider the excerpts below, from a familiar Kirk Franklin song. And, don’t forget the little pink pillow. Have a great day! Be blessed!
“Silver and gold, silver and gold, oh I’d rather have Jesus than silver and gold. No fame or fortune, nor riches untold, oh I’d rather have Jesus than silver and gold.”
Committed to the climb,
Mark L. King
I may not be economically rich, yet I know that I am rich in His Spirit. The Lord my God has never misguided me or forsaken me. I know with Him, I will be able to climb out of valleys of distress or mess. I know with Him, I will never fail…I may have failings; I will never fail.
Regardless of the distress or the mess…never a failure! Thanks for your testimony and response. Be blessed!
