SHINY SILVERWARE AND SOFT DISH TOWELS

Mrs. King walks quietly to the edge of the kitchen.  I’m busy putting away shiny silverware and hanging up soft dish towels.  This is my routine.  I use one dish towel to place on the counter, setting washed dishes there to patiently wait for me to dry them off.  I use the other dish towel to dry them once all the washing is complete.  Mrs. King is still watching, unnoticed as I focus on my tasks, going through my routine.  As I place the silverware in their assigned places, she hears me say to one fork in particular, “No!  It’s not your turn to be placed on top.  You were first yesterday.  I’ve got to treat you all fair.”  I still have not noticed my wife watching me.  Next, I place the towel on the counter on the left side of the stove handle.  The towel used for drying is now placed on the right side of the stove handle.  On this day, I caught myself doing it wrong and I had to tell the soft dish towels, “I’m sorry!  I have to change your position if I want to do things right.”  Finally, I hear a laugh in the background.  I’m caught treating inanimate objects as if they are living beings.  I join in the laughter, but she keeps me from feeling odd and out of my mind by saying, “I do the same thing!”  The laughter continues, only even louder and longer.

Now I’m sure you have some peculiarities or you have personalized some inanimate objects in your house too.  Go ahead and admit it.  It’s alright.  But just remember to apply the principle of treating people right too, every time.  And if you mess up, go apologize and reconcile with that person.  Adhere to Jesus’ words below.

Have a great Sunday! Make your way to the house of God. If for some understandable reason you cannot, can catch a preacher online who is preaching from of the word of God, not just talking, but preaching the word! My friend, I assure you, God has a specific message meant just for you.  In the meantime, be blessed.

Here is a simple rule of thumb for behavior: Ask yourself what you want people to do for you; then grab the initiative and do it for them!  If you only love the lovable, do you expect a pat on the back?  Run-of-the-mill sinners do that. If you only help those who help you, do you expect a medal?  Garden-variety sinners do that.  If you only give for what you hope to get out of it, do you think that’s charity?  The stingiest of pawnbrokers does that.” (Luke 6:31-34 MSG)

Committed to the climb,

  1. I have fun in my playtime with inanimate objects. I don’t view that as odd. It is good practice to use this model in our Christian walk. The closing scripture from the Message Bible says it all.

  2. The Bible teaches that others should be treated with love, kindness, compassion, and respect, anchored by the “Golden Rule” to treat others as you would like to be treated (Matthew 7:12). Key principles include forgiving others as God forgave you, showing humility, bearing one another’s burdens, and loving your enemies. Be Blessed

    1. Very good response and reflection. This is the kind of response that instructs me! Appreciated! Be blessed!
