“And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him to whom we must answer.” (Hebrews 4:13 NASB)
I got up earlier that usual Tuesday morning, about 12:55 a.m. to be exact. Monday night, just so you will have the proper perspective, I turned the TV off at 10:00 p.m. You do the math! Back to early Tuesday morning. I didn’t even make any coffee, preceded right to my work area to start on the meditation for the day. I had a thought, but had not a tenth of a word was written. There was no, routinely prepared “rough draft,” readied the day before. But let me add to the proper perspective, “God is good!” You would definitely only see His footprints as I started to type. As you can tell from the hour and minute on you received yesterday’s meditation, with God’s help, I finished my morning task during the hour that many call “still nighttime.” My older brother sent me a quick response a little after three o’clock saying, “Naptime!” He was right and I ensured him that’s where I was heading right after I did a couple more things. I had to review a draft for a friend, utilizing my HR background. Once finished with that I used the “Pay by Phone” option to avoid being late on a payment of a monthly bill. Finally I headed to the kitchen and made the coffee. I go through my routine, setting out matching cups for my wife and myself, the miniature spoon used to stir in cream and sugar, all placed in the same place I put them on a spread-out napkin every day. Next, instead of running back to the bed and jumping in like an Olympic swimmer or graceful gymnast, I go to the dining room and start rearranging the staged tabletop display. When I finally get it to how I want it to look with my added placemats, napkins, and coordinating silverware that now serves, for one day at least, as a centerpiece, I stand back and admire my work.
My peripheral vision must be slipping. Here is the setup. The living room and the dining room are adjacent to each other. No wall or any other object obstructs one’s view. All of a sudden, I hear a hearty laugh that just couldn’t stop coming from the living room. I look to my right and there sits Mrs. King on the black footstool that she uses to sit on to do her morning prayer. She usually never does it that early! I don’t know if she was laughing because of my compulsive home décor tendencies or because I did not notice her. Wisely, I did not ask what was so funny. I just joined in the laughter and thanked her for a meditation idea for today, “Somebody Is Watching You!” Finally I went to nap for three hours. Great, right?
With a clear head this Wednesday morning, I can remind you that somebody is watching you. Individuals in your house who are not on the same rung on the spiritual growth ladder or watching you. Sometimes their motive is merely to point a finger at any perceived hypocrisy where your action, as minor as it may be, does not match your words. At the store, at the workplace, at the bank, at the customer service desk or drive-thru window, somebody is watching you. And even if for some remote chance you find yourself alone for a remote moment, guess what? Somebody is watching you! My wife’s unseen presence was just a useful hint to me that in an unseen place, with uninterrupted, and unblocked vision, there is One who sits high and looks low. There is One that our ability to understand all of Him transcends us, but He is the same One who has His eye on us and is condescending, coming down to see us whenever we need Him. Did I just say, “God is good!” That’s so true, undeniably a statement fortified in an unchanging truth. He is good! The songwriter says, obviously inspired by the verse below, “His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.” A hallelujah goes right here! So knowing that it is true, “Somebody Is Watching You, “ and realizing that the Sovereign Lord is always watching you, go out and live such that you continuously put a smile on the face of God and concurrently impact the faith of others. Have a great Wednesday! Be blessed!
“Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are.” (Matthew 6:26 NLT)
Still committed to the climb,
