MAKE THIS ONE EXCEPTION

“Among the gods there is none like unto thee, O Lord; neither are there any works like unto thy works.” (Psalm 86:8 KJV)

The contractor says he will be at your residence between 8 a.m. and 12 noon.  He calls right at noon and informs you that he will be there at one o’clock, saying, “I’m on your side of the town.”  He shows up at 2:10 pm. Your side of town must make up 75% of the city.  It doesn’t matter.  You are rightly upset at this point, up and dressed since 7:30 a.m.  You make a solemn vow to yourself that you will never call him again.  You’ve had similar experiences.  For instance, remember when you placed your merchandise order online, believing the message, “If you place your order by 6:00 a.m., you will get same day delivery.”  Elated, you entered all the required pay information.  Once you had clicked the yellow, “Submit Your Order Box,” you receive a confirmation for your order.  Sounds perfect!  However, the only problem is that the delivery date on the confirmation is now two days later than the original date.  Thank the Lord for the Christ in you!  Instead of getting too worked up, you called on your patience and you pushed aside every ounce of angry emotion that is ready to explode.  Your tongue had to be tamed as expletives from old were ready to break the chains that had kept them from escaping since antiquity.  But when the due date came and you were like a kid, ready for your older sibling, the first to awaken usually, to shout, “Santa’s been here!”, you get yet another message regarding your online purchase explaining that due to “some difficulty,” your order will not arrive another two days later.  Like the character in the movie, you hold up your hands and say, “Why? Why? Why?”  Okay maybe you didn’t do all that, but you could no longer suppress your feeling of anger. One more example that you perhaps have experienced.  The cable guy says, “We will restore your service in one hour.”  But, once again I say “but,” It is not restored until late the next day!  Thinking, “Liar! Liar!”, you decide to change carriers.

All those reactions are understandable.  You are not by yourself.  I’ve been there too!  But let me share that there is one exception to responding like we did in the examples above, when things did not show up when you wanted them to.  That exception relates to God.  He is different and there is no one like Him!  Make this one exception when the timing seems late and exclaim a truth, one that has been emphasized throughout our experiences in Christian education all our lives.  You know what I’m about to say, but sometimes a reminder is right on time.  Ease yourself by exclaiming, “He may not come when you want Him too, but when He comes, He is always right on time.”  God’s timing is purposeful, perfect, and passionate.

Therefore my friend, make the exception!  Don’t give up!  Don’t stop waiting on the Lord!  He knows exactly what He is doing for your good and His schedule will be according to His will.  He can do that because He alone is God.  He is the Master Scheduler.  Again I say, “Wait on the Lord!”  He’s coming!  He’s got you!  Have a great Tuesday!  Be blessed!

“Wait for and expect the Lord and keep His way…“ (Psalm 37:34a Amplified Bible)

Still committed to the climb,

Mark L. King
