DO AS HE SAYS AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS

“Now it happened that while the crowd was pressing around Him and listening to the word of God, He was standing by the lake of Gennesaret; and He saw two boats lying at the edge of the lake; but the fishermen had gotten out of them and were washing their nets.  And He got into one of the boats, which was Simon’s, and asked him to put out a little distance from the land.  And He sat down and continued teaching the crowds from the boat.  Now when He had finished speaking, He said to Simon, “Put out into the deep water and let down your nets for a catch.”  Simon responded and said, “Master, we worked hard all night and caught nothing, but I will do as You say and let down the nets.  ”And when they had done this, they caught a great quantity of fish, and their nets began to tear; so they signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both of the boats, to the point that they were sinking.” (Luke 5:3-7 NASB)

This week’s meditations have been longer than usual.  So I will reward you this Saturday morning by making this one relatively short.  As a matter of fact, what I am about to say probably stood out boldly and immediately as you read the passage above.  Great!  Yet, let me say it anyway in four sentences.  (1) You have tried things in your life without the Lord and they did not work.  (2) Now try it His way, according to His word, and see what happens.  (3) Obeying the Lord is the key to receiving God’s greatest blessings. (4) The blessings that come from your obedience benefit you and many who are around you.

I’m done!  Really!  Have a great Saturday!  And of course I have to give my weekend reminder: “Don’t forget to make it to church tomorrow!”  Trust and obey!  Be blessed!

“Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own.  Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track.” (Proverbs 3:5-6 The Message Bible)

Still committed to the climb,

Mark L. King
